Wrecking Ball's ultimate

I’m trying to understand one thing about Hammond’s ultimate, which is: Why in hell does Reinhardt shield absorbs all the damage from the mines even if they are directly touching him ?

His ult is utterly useless due to this little thing, any team that has a shield (especially Reinhardt) can literally ignore Hammond’s ult.

Did he ult ? drop winston bubble to destroy 80% of the mines.
Did he ult ? throw a Orisa shield in there to wipe 50-60% of the mines.
Did he ult and you’re a Reinhardt trapped in the middle of the field ? just put your shield up and destroy all the mines around you without taking a single point of damage.

This Hero ult hardly does anything already, between the massive time it takes the mines to arm and how flinsy they are its not a usefull ultimate to kill people nor it is usefull to deny area since you can clean it so easily.

Orisa’s barrier can destroy like 50% more mines than Winston’s, hence the 900 vs 600hp!
And that would leave Orisa without a barrier, so she would be super vulnerable for the next 8 seconds!

Its not as much about the HP of the barrier, but its size.

Depending on how the mines are layed out a Winston barrier will instantly pop all of them.

Orisa on the other hand will only do that if they are all clumped together.

Still, it provides one of the best area denials in the game. you can completely block off small objectives with it, and if the tanks’ barriers are low than they can’t do much about it. Its usually a waste of time shooting the mines, unless you are Reinhardt or Brigitte!

it’s still good if you have 2 shields on your team

Well there has to be some form of counterplay outside of EMP, otherwise a team’s options are standing around shooting mines instead of red team or just straight up not going where they need to go for however long those mines stay up for

brig or rein swipes clean it with a few hits

It actually doesn’t.

Even if for some reason you don’t actually have any shields, any other AoE attack clean the mines in a single hit.

Biotic nade, Firestrike, Rein attacks, Brig attacks, Junkrat mines/nades and even a Wreckingball can destroy the mines by rolling over them.

That is not even considering ultimates.

I haven’t fully understood how Reinhardt can put up his shield, walk backwards into the mines, and still destroy them. His shield doesn’t even make contact with the mines but it soaks the damage.
I want to say it’s a bug

If only that was the case, but EMP is far from the only response when it comes to ultiamates.

Mei’s Blizzard, Bastion’s Configuration Tank, D.va’s nuke, Doomfist’s Meteor strike, Junkrat’s tire, Lucio’s Sound barrier, Moira’s Coalescence, Reaper’s Death blossom, Phara’s Rocket barrage, Symmetra’s Photon barrier, Roadhog’s Wholehog and last but not least Zennyata’s Transcence.

So out of all the heroes, only Ana, Genji, Hanzo, McCree, Mercy and Torb can’t deal with the mines.

If you couldn’t destroy them by doing damage, them this shield stupidity could be overlooked, but since anything that does any kind of AoE damage at all already makes quick work of those mines, having shields behave like that is kind overkill.

I’ve also recently learned that if the mines are on the ground rein’s shatter can easily destroy almost all of them.

I’m sad when an Ana grenade pops a bunch of them.

It has to be used effectively too. The best way is to swing way high above enemies, drop ult from the top, then wreck balldive down immediately.

That is actually the only way you might have a chance to kill people with it.

Sadly, the support that is most vulnerable to that (Ana) can simply pop 1/3 of the mines with her bio-nade while air-borne and just walk away.

Casting his ultimate while near ceilings also can cause the mines to just latch on to said ceiling, and if you go too high, they just spread so much that you can walk in between each mine.

Thing with Shield Tanks is wait until Winston and Orisa lay down their shields before deploying mines, and wait for Reins shield to break.

If you’re going to wait for those shields to break/be off CD, you’re going to hold on to your ultimate for the whole match.
