Imagine a tank that does not have any shield but enough HP to be able to block a lot of damage.
Like around 2500-3000 HP.
This hero has no damage output, no CC and no self health recovery.
The abilities would be all about fast repositioning to get in place and out quickly.
Of course having that much HP from the beginning is a bit hard to deal with so here is some detailed info:
Primary fire: does no damage. Instead it increases the tank’s HP until a max limit is reached. “Fire rate” and reload/CD need to be balanced around.
Secondary fire: a healing buff for himself. Similar to Ana’s nade but only for the tank so the healers can support him by building up his HP.
Ability 1 and 2: positioning tools. Similar to Winston’s jump or Wrecking Ball’s hook. Again: no damage. No CC.
Ult: cloning
Creating a second version of the tank that stays stationary. Cannot contest objectives or anything and has the same HP as the actual tank had when activating his ult. Allies can use it a stationary meat shield.
Passive: the healpacks on the map heal him/her/omnic double the amount of HP than usual.
Maybe also that he doesn’t give that much ult charge to enemies.
Playstyle: it would be an agile playstyle and the focus would be on body blocking. It would be a pure utility tank: shelter and support ult charge.
And this tank wouldn’t care about one shot abilities.
The tank needs to be pretty big to body block enough damage to replace a barrier though.
I think there are pretty cool strategies with this kind of playstyle. Imagine being on full HP and double yourself in front of a barrage. Or covering your team from 2 sides when Soldier is ulting etc.
If the no damage aspect doesn’t work one could try to change and balance that. Maybe dealing a maximum of 50 damage at a certain rate but that damage would consume his/her/omnic own HP too.
I try to avoid situations in which the tank just dives the enemy and kills 3 people since he is meant to be hard to kill.
What do you think?
Any ideas/ suggestions or changes you would apply?
Is the tanks name “Ult Battery”

I would rather call him “read with a little more attention”

But he still gives ult charge. So Rein’s shield will be already better.
Not really, though it’s a unique idea.

Yeah but Rein cannot reposition himself that fast. And would have lower tanking capacities.
I am sure the ult charge for enemies can be balanced
As a tank player, I would absolutely hate playing this character. If he became a mandatory pick, I’d probably either switch to Support or quit.

Would you like to explain why?
I am sure not everyone likes it but I would like to hear the reasons to get ideas for changes.
Having no damage at all would be horrible. I’d be completely dependent on my teammates, and never able to secure any kills for myself. Also, I have no peel and the only way I can help my teammates is by body-blocking for them, which has never been a reliable strategy. This character would be Reinhardt, but worse in almost every way and incapable of doing anything on his own.

No damage = no fun even for a tank. Being a meat shield during a whole 10 minute is extremely boring. Plus there is the fact that nobody will be able to see through him. So less useful than a barrier.
Having no damage output nor cc nor literally anything to do other than get shot would be incredibly boring and frustrating
You’d literally be able to do nothing but rely on your teammates who 99% of them are braindead
Plus, with the damage going arround, 3000hp isnt enough
Even syms barrier tends to lose half its hp

if hes/shes that big how to go through the map? the hero has to be bigger than rein or hammond. like through small gateways, doors and such?
Okay as far as I can tell no damage is what makes it unfun.
So what about this idea: his damage output depends on his damage input.
This could be one ability. The tank activates the ability and stores the damage taken within the next x seconds. Then sets the damage free in any form. Don’t know if shockwave, explosion or beam or anything.
Ultimates would need to be looked at separately.
But I think giving this hero a fix damage output would make him kinda OP since he has way more health. Except it is a low output but then again would this be fun?
The damage storing idea would also be something new to this game.
You could even implement a second version if the ability (similar to Moira’s choice of orbs) to convert taken damage into healing (maybe even the team mates around the tank). Though, he radius needs to be reeally really small to keep it balanced.
Good point. Maybe the “pumping up the HP” could also influence the size of the tank.
Like Zarya ? 20 characters
You made my day, carry on good sir.
Is anyone else just picturing an enormous rectangular amorphous blob?

It would be funny when this hero is very low HP (like 100 / 3000 HP) and the only healer is moira : she would have to heal 2900 HP. Too bad she won’t have enough resource to heal him.
I guess this Moira would have to go DPS.

As soon as I saw “Like around 2500-3000 HP.
This hero has no damage output, no CC and no self health recovery.” I was convinced. Finally a tank hero that doesn’t have damage on par with DPS.
