Is the ult economy.
Lets be real, 95% of the time youre going to back fill into a game where the team youre on is getting utterly decimated- And there will be all of maybe 1-2~ minutes left on the clock.
And then the moment you meet up with the team- You get ulted.
Wait for the timer. Respawn.
And oh, another ult.
But then just when you think you might have a chance- Another ult.
Coming into a game with 0 ult when the majority of the enemies have or are near ultimate, result in an amazingly steep uphill battle.
Id love the know the win rate of people who back fill- Youre already likely at a major team disadvantage, but youre coming in with a huge and appreciable resource disadvantage, that doubles down in making sure you never get to build the resource yourself because youre spending half the time looking at the respawn timer.
I think doing something to address this could help a lot in how it feels to backfill. Maybe an approach similar in concept to the speed boost you get for respawning on flash point.
Maybe when you backfill if the games been running for a minute + already, you could spawn in with a modifier to your ult charge gain, or even for just the first 30-60~ seconds after you spawn.

Iâve thought the same, it should be quite fair all in all. Not sure of exact amounts, but somewhat tied to how far the match has progressed to like you said.
Or alternatively take how much the leaver had - if any.
At least the âhero swap minimumâ 15% shouldnt be a problem at all.

As a Reinhardt enjoyer, I am going to earn my ultimate in less than 30 seconds anyways unless they are on Dva. And if they are on Dva, I just block it. Itâs whatever.
Thatâs a marginal issue. The worst thing about backfills is that the matchmaking REALLY doesnât care what players get pulled into a game. Yea I know itâs just quickplay but youâll legit get players 2-3 whole skill tiers lower replacing your leavers, and the games just turn into one-sided stomps.

as if the match wasnt a stomp already. Chances are, thats why the first person left.
People often leave during hero selection or after literally one lost team fight. Not saying youâre wrong but the matchmaking isnât helping any.

Ya when you back fill you need to pick a hero that doesnât rely on their ult much or have cooldowns that are like an ult. Like Widow/Bapt.
What would be wrong with getting 80% of the ult charge of the player that left? Itâs not a loss to the other team and it makes the whole game fairer for the team you join not losing all that ult charge.
It would create a dumb meta where you would only pick heroes with good ults on a backfill. For example, you could pick Bastion and get a trash ult or pick Junkrat instead and get an easy team wipe.
honestly ult economy doesnt even really matter in quick play cuz half the time people are wasting or forgetting to use ultimates, dying on their ultimates, or swapping heroes and resetting almost all the ult progress

Then make it 50% or something that you still have to work to get the ult. Starting with no ult charge is the worst option.
Itâs 40-60 I guess mostly as long as there is time and the team doesnât have trolls throwing I can generally play well.
The only time I hate is when I fill into ending matches.
I kind of felt that the worst part was trying to stop players from trickling on a backfill.
Yeah, the backfill may be quite mismatched at times.
Of course that is a tricky thing - if you leave a team without a player that is arguably even bigger problem than a mismatched player.
However I think it could search a bit longer if someone leaves at the very first minute and not necessarily try to fill it asap.
Recently though it has felt like if a tank leaves, the backfill is better matched than before. It might be because of the specific role-matching changes they did specifically for tanks in last patch, or just good luck.
