Hi friends,
I’ve been playing Overwatch for just only a few weeks now and I was instantly hooked when I saw the Workshop. This week I put alot of hours in making a fun gamemode, but I’m afraid to share it with anyone.
I really want to know to what point you can credit yourself that can’t be removed, or if there are ways for people to know that you made the original code. I don’t mind if it get used or even edited by others ofcourse, as long as I can let the gamemode display myself as the original author.
I thought about the description but when I loaded someone else’s preset for testing the description was also editable.
Thanks in advance!

some content creators that have created a gamemode with a lot of effort just made a hud on each of the player’s screen with the creator’s name and battletag. While some included it in some cutscenes or in world texts inside the world. Though, these might be editable, it’s the most common and easy way to do it.
there is not really a way to credit yourself without anyone having the ability to change it, if you write that in the description everyone can just edit the description, if you create an in-world text/hud text its gonna be harder to change for people that doesnt know how to use workshop but everyone can still change it

Damn thats lame. No idea why Blizzard hasn’t made it possible to atleast credit the original author. Ofcourse sharing is good but plagiarism isn’t. I mean I don’t see them sharing their Overwatch source code anytime soon. Regardless thanks for the help and I will try to add the HUD and description. I was also thinking to trying to build a community around it discord server etc. so I have the upper hand once someone decides to host it and credit only themselves. Nice player icon btw!

they probably havent made it because thats gonna have a lot of problems, because they cant really check who made this and havent changed it, every little touch in the editor and thats gonna be a totally different gamemode for automated system to detect
Do not not bother with it, just share…
More info about me and my game mods you can find here.
Feel free to comment my ideas.
dont be scared to share. people will modify it and thats okay!
most people will credit you when they make mods, i just made a mod of a mod of an original, and in the description, the original creator AND the first modder are mentioned
if you look at any of the genji dodgeball mods out there, they say the original and a LONG list of modders! so please, dont worry, most of us out there appreciate the work you do!!! and we make damn sure to acknowledge you when we mod
ideas evolve when we unleash them upon the world <3
the easiest way is to use a Text translator - i saw a game mode where the guy used a crypted language, everything is written like that: LiLiiiiillLLllLLLlllILiliLLILILIL
I think he translated each line parameters using a combo of L and i
**this is the code 4QV99 **
If you want to be known as the original creator, then you should first share the mode under your name on a platform such as the Workshop Discussion of the forum, r/OverwatchCustomGames on reddit, or workshop.codes.
