Hey - I just wanted to know if it was normal for this new game to put you into the same rank and division that you were previously in after winning your next 7 matches. i.e. I got placed into Bronze V and after that, I played 9 matches and won 7 of them and I got REPLACED into Bronze V again…lol… I just wanted to know if that’s normal so I can stop playing this game now or if its a bug.

it just means that after reviewing those 7 games, your performance is still at that rank. your rank only updates after 7 wins or 20 loses instead of after each game. The system analyses your performance based on other players in your division playing those same characters. This is because you winning doesn’t always mean you contributed impact-fully in a game, and as a result is a preventative measure in order to not reward boosting.
So you need to perform well and win in order to improve your division. So no piggy backing off your pro friend from overwatch 1, you will get separated pretty quickly.
Edit: FYI this 7 game win 20 game loss was not in ow1, So more time is needed to understand it more closely. Content creators are still busy struggling to stay logged in so its still risky to play competitive in order to get a clearer picture of how it feels overall. you need at least a week or two of normal playing for us to get a better idea

Yeah it’s taking me 14 wins to advance rather than the 7. Total wins after my placement is now 21, I’ve advanced once.
This is def not the case and its most likely a bug, i played with a friend, Both of us are supports and he always had “gold” healing and actually got potg many times. We played 21 matches together and he is still at bronze 5 while Im ranking despite him carrying
Its a bug, many people are complaining about this, my friend played 21 matches and did good and he still at bronze 5
it seems like the people who have played ow1 and were gold-plat are getting placed really low elo and not ranking up but my friends who just started play ranked and get gold
