Won 5 in a row... got demoted

So, I guess this game doesn’t make sense when it comes to competitive. I won 5 straight games in a row and went from G3-G4.

Can someone explain before I leave this game?

Rough.

I’d stop worrying what your rank is and focus on 2 things (in this order)

  1. Have fun.
  2. What could you have done better in your last match.

Outside of that, don’t worry, what will be will be.

If you care about your rank you’re best to just leave and find another game to play.

Skill issue. You lost more than you won. Just because you won 5 doesn’t mean you didn’t lose 9 or even just 6 which is still a negative win rate.

He said he won 5 in a row?

He never said he went 5-0.

You are acting like it literally impossible to lose bunch of game and then go on a win streak of 5 games.

No I’m just assuming the OP has more than a single brain cell. But given the replies perhaps that was a mistake.

Yes, I’ll explain it to you.

The matchmaker devs had an idea of a new way to create a matchmaker so they did it. The code kept getting longer and longer until nobody really knew what it was doing, they all gave each other high fives, applied for a patent, ran a few data pulls with some charts and graphs to make management believe it’s working great when it’s actually the word matchmaking on the history of the entire universe. Not planet, universe.

Their strat at this point is to brainwash people into thinking its all in their head, hope that we all become zen masters and stop caring about outcomes of competitive matches.

  • Go to career profile tell us the # of games you have won on that role (it says games won right on the front page of your profile under this seasons comp tab)
  • Individually click through every single hero you have played for that role and tally up the total games played. you can’t skip any hero’s that you’ve played unless it displays as 0 games.
  • now tell us your REAL win rate…

people literally come here by the dozens every day and complain about this exact thing but ONLY give us a single snap shot of when they popped off or literally won like 1 or 2 games and expected to rank up…

Give us all the relevant info to answer your question - odds are though the moment you do you’ll answer your own question. My guess is your win rate is at or below 50%

It took me a moment, but I realize now how it’s possible.

If you had a massive loss streak immediately after a rank update but before winning 5 straight, you’d still derank after the 5 wins. But you didn’t tell us that, oh no. Doing that would make you seem like less of a victim.

Sure. Devs are incompetent. They tried to make a system and the worst branch of engineering failed. To no ones surprise.

I actually realized the OP has an open profile… it doesn’t show their total number of games played but just eyeballing what is visible I’d estimate they have played about 80 total games and currently have 44 total wins on DPS…

So you got like around a 55% win rate and you’re up a couple of games… (but ONLY because you just went 5-0… assuming your profile is current to this post before you were 5-0 you were just a 50% win rate or very close to it) You don’t need to maintain a constant 5-0 on your skill up screens but you do gotta keep up your 55%+ win streak.

You’re close to where you belong though if your win rate is that consistent after that many games. Maybe you can get bronze 4 or bronze 3 if you can get in a few dozen more games by the end of the season - GL!

That’s how Blizzard are boosting players to ranks they don’t belong and also keep players from climbing to their actual rank. It causes chaos and a broken MM.

Time to fire the bosses at Blizzard, either now or when there’s no game left to salvage.

You need to have 5 more wins than losses to rank up when you get your next rank update.
Many people seemingly get confused about that part.

You can pretty much think about it like this: each division is 100 SR points
And each win gives you 20-25SR and each loss reduces 20-25SR.
So once you have +100sr when you get the next rank update, you go up. and on average that means 4-5 more wins than losses.

The “5 wins for rank update” does not mean you get up a rank, its just a visual refresher on your ranking.

Now we dont see the exact SR anymore but you can make an educated guess of where you are when you see the “youre rated higher than xx% of the players in your division”.

Honestly stick to QP. Comp in this game is a pretty small % of the player base of a not huge to begin with player base. People really don’t care outside a very small %. The truth is most people dont take this system seriously at all, dont care about rank even if they do play comp.

This games been such a mess for so long people just gave up. QP however can still be fun.

This. Really wish they would have 2 rounds in QP though. If you’re on defence most people just leave as it’s more than likely a loss. CP and Push are the best modes in QP as a result.

Also, loading into a defeat screen happens way to often and should have been fixed years ago.

Agree with this. But no idea how.

You could suggest a time point where there’s no back fill… But no game is the same time, how long could you stall in OT where a new player might clutch it.

I don’t think there is an easy solution.

Removing the leave game option within the last 30s before OT would go a long way to help. People leave seconds before the end because they know they’re going to lose and they can’t face the defeat screen.

In comp it shouldn’t be there at all. Yes I know people will just close the game. But make them close the game then. Why is there a leave option in the menu?
