Won 5 games in a row barely ranked up

Just won 5 games in a row and barely ranked up from masters 4 to masters 2. You got people losing more than winning and ranking up more than that. This rank system is so weird man.

seems fake:…:…:…: :«

Yeah I swear Ive been deranked heaps of times after winning five. Always confused heck out of me. It happened so often I only recently figured out Colour2 is higher than Colour5 lol not the other way where higher number=higher rank.

Do you think that in the course of 5 games you became a dramatically better player?

Sweat hard for that win streak, with such small reward.

Ranking up two in one setting is pretty damn good.
If the SR system is still in place underneath (which I suspect), you might have been on just the border of ranking up 3.

…people often mistake ‘winning’ with ‘performing well’…?

…the ranking system is looking at performance not (as much) wins and losses (although they certainly are an indicator of performance, e.g:

  • a bad player can be carried to multiple wins
  • a good player can be burdened by bad teammates and suffer multiple losses
  • the only constant is the player performance…

I was literally solo queue, I carried my own weight through all those games with a 5 win streak.

The purpose of the ranking system is to reflect your skill, give or take a couple tiers. If someone had a stable rank for a long time and then gets a crazy win streak, that doesn’t mean their skill necessarily changed.

I went 5-2 and didn’t rank up at all. The wins were all in a streak. Then I won the next 4 in a row, lost one, then won the last game and ranked up twice. I consider ranking up twice to be very good. I have never seen someone rank up 3 times.

That is the literal definition of performing well for the sake of laddering.
The only performance that matters is winning.
Can you perform well or not and still win or lose? Sure, but that’s secondary.
Winning as a metric captures the set of all behaviours, whether subtle, clutch, deadweight, mindgaming, etc.

It’s the ultimate metric for competitive sport, and the only one.

If you’re given a constant flux of randoms from your rank, you rise above them or don’t. Your stats don’t reveal your skill, your winrate does. Just like in chess, no one is judging you on how you played the match, only if you w/l/d.

You can only rank up or down two levels at a time though?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I swear this is half the reason it took Dafran forever to move up out of the lower tiers with Echo.

Weird complain about moving up multiple ranks but ok

I went 5 wins and 1 loss THREE TIMES IN A ROW and the matchmaker refused to move me up at all. Kept me at Plat 1 for 18 games with an 83% winrate.

Had one bad round and went 5-5. It dropped me 2 or 3 ranks.

This game is broken. Devs don’t care. It will die, as it deserves to.

…I didn’t say you weren’t…?

…I mean, everyone says that, feel free to provide the reps but winning 5 and ‘barely ranking up’ suggests otherwise…?

…are you suggesting the ranking system is intentionally keeping the OP down despite all their ‘wins’…?

It could be? If OP wins and their mmr goes up what happens? They used to get mmr-rigged so they would hit that 50% winrate faster than they ought to normally, if it were random around SR.

Seems legit

So you went up 101-199 SR from 5 wins, I dont see the issue.

Unless it’s changed from OW1 I thought performance really didn’t matter past diamond or so? I mean yes you need to win, but performance based SR wasn’t rewarded past that point previously.

The new system is just odd, we know next to nothing how it works and Blizzard is vague as possible. That said one thing that might affect your rank, did you leave any matches?

If you got disconnected or left a match it can hurt your rank even if you win all your games.
