Won 10 matches, lost 1...still stuck at same rank

I really don’t get it.

As Kiriko I went 10-1 this morning but am stuck at Gold 4 still. I know personal contribution doesn’t matter (stupidly) but fwiw I had most heals and least deaths in the grand majority of matches.

Can someone please make sense of this? I see Youtubers going “from unranked to Plat” by winning just as much as I do (this is by far not the first time this has happened).

The unranked to GM videos show a new placing, they get put in at a quite high ranking to start, due to performance in QP, smash up a gold lobby, because the game is trying to place them, it bumps it right up in the next game, stomp again, BUMP, STOMP, BUMP, STOMP, the account is suddenly playing, (and stomping), in diamond lobbies, BUMP…etc.

More uncertainty in the new account’s data, creates a more chaotic ranking placement.

Surprised you got 10 games without leavers or throwers. Rank hardly matters now anyway seeing as it’s all changing in a couple of weeks and everyone gets reset.

I wish I knew. It seems like whenever I am on a good streak my rank goes down. Granted, I am at a much lower level, but filling out a card with 5 wins, 1 loss and losing rank is disheartening. Even more disheartening just now when I filled out a card with 5 wins, 0 losses and went from down from 5 to 4.

It feels a little like the card system might be penalizing people for having a good run of games, or at least wins. If they turned out to be too easy for whatever reason, one might have less opportunity to do the things that make the system happy. Which seems like a bit of a rip, since we don’t have any control over what opponents the matchmaking system provides.

Matchmaking in this game is strange… I don’t think I’m Bronze but the game put me there? I demolish most players in duels but team fights I keep losing. Not saying one bad player isn’t a disadvantage but it feels like there’s levels to this in my rank. I can’t remember role value back in OW1 but OW2 I noticed TANK > SUPPORT > DAMAGE in making a difference. I can win matches with clueless Damage players but if Tank or Support mentally clock out it’s game over.

Quite simple really. Any role can help out a bad dps, but dps can’t offset a potato tank or support. Bad game design.

4 is higher than 5, so you went up.

Instead of complaining about potato tanks… how bout understand that ONE tank is struggling to take on a role as ONE person. Dont hate the player hate the game. I just laugh at all the entitled dpsers who complain about crappy tanks while they chain queue as the “funner” role and Karen their way through life complaining about crappy tanks.

How bout you play tank in this game eating zen discords and having to make split second decisions that can cost your team games… Try it sometime.

Actually low gold is bottom 30% of the playerbase and master* is top 5.5%

Even I don’t think it’s that rigged. I do get to play with both of those ranks quite often though. Sometimes in the same game. And lemme tell ya I will take the masters on my team 9 times out of 10.

I don’t play dps, and I’m certainly not going to play tank. If you read my post you’ll see I did blame the game. I was not complaining I was stating a fact. dps don’t have the kit to offset a bad tank or support player, where’s a support player or tank can much easier take up the slack from a dps.

Mechanical skill level between the two is probably very close. The difference is the master players will counter pick, group up, save ults, play for objectives not elims. Gold players hard feed, never group up and play the game like COD.

You’re right! I feel a little better now.

I agree master players just do everything a little bit better and don’t make nearly as many bonehead plays as golds. But there are so many little things that they all add up to a huge difference in skill.

So maybe that explains why they are also a lot worse?

People will have different views on what is considered “noteworthy” for video game accomplishments. For some that may be just above average like diamond. Others would say only if you can make a pro career out of it or else it is just a useless hobby. GM is probably a popular opinion as well. Top 1.6% at almost anything is impressive.
