I mean shes already pretty bad, that not new. But you could at least argue that she sees some use in pro play.
Now with OW2 changes, things will probably drastically change. Why?
So first of all, Sombra isnt an assassine. Her biggest value for the team was getting a hack on the main tank to create space. Spam tanks to farm Ult charge and then win a team fight with a big EMP. So far so clear?
Whats the issue with that in OW2?
Main tanks wont exist anymore in OW2. All tanks get reworked into off tanks. In one example Jeff showed us, Reinhardt only had a 800 hp barrier. Thats a little tease for things to come. They will all be more lethal, similar to Hog. So the space advantage you will gain will be relatively unimportant as your team doesnt really have the protection to push into the enemy team. It will just be a poke from safe distance battle and try not to die.
Also Jeff announced role passives. One of the new tank passive is that they feed less Ult charge to enemies. Who hits that? Ult reliant heroes, such as Sombra.
Then it seems like they will try a 5v5 system change with 1 tank less. Which means there will be 1 less damage source on the teams frontline to follow up on a Sombra hack. Comboâing with a tank Ult is one of the best Sombra strategies you have.
Now another big deal will be the removal of 2CP.
2CP is designed in way where you need to rely on teamwork and grouping up to push through a choke point. Sombra is very good at bypassing chokes, or denying enemies the opportunity to get through by making them vulnerable with the hack to the main tank or a straight up EMP.
Volskaya was traditionally my best map. That will be gone from comp in OW2.
On the other hand we will get a new gamemode push which will be more similar to Koth and very death matchâish, which Sombra struggles in because she sucks in 1v1s.
But since the forums hate her anyway. i guess for you guys thats a good thing. And i know the devs hate her too, so i dont even know why i even mention this.
The biggest counterplay ( barriers ) to long / mid range hitscans will be nerfed to the ground even now barriers canât really do anything to hitscans
So McCheesy, Soldier, WIdow, Ashe, Hanzo, Echo, Tracer will became SSS+ tier while other dps will became unusable
CC heroes like Mei , Sombra wonât have any space to do their job and also will be completely useless, because picking a specialist at tank busting wonât be really useful
Why do you need to pick them when you can do same thing but better on 6 heroes above
Short range dps ( except Tracer ) will be useless for the same reason
Some other heroes that requires a barriers to just work will be also unusable - Brig, Bastion
Sombra doesnât need buffs she needs a rework. Thereâs quite a few overwatch heroes that are just poorly designed and I expect weâre gonna see some reworks launch with ow2.
assuming to know overwatch âfinalâ meta based on the sparse information we know of the numerous change theyâll be making to current hero, and without knowing what any of the new heroes will do, is bold, very bold at this point
well this is because she is a team oriented dps
if you donât follow up on EMP (the best ult in the game)
or hacks then yea you wonât get value
also in a meta where dps do stupid amounts of damage
the damage is more important so hitscan heroes will outclass sombra.
she herself is fairly balanced rn it is just so many other heroes are not.

you can always assasinate 200hp dps
this is supposed to be a nerf to ult charge rates
as it is
so that you canât farm ult off of tanks with large hitboxes and hp pools.
this change was neccessary and should put more value on ability usage other than ultimates.

I donât know how she would heal I just thought of this 2 secconds ago I think it would be really cool to see though
for her to be a consistent dps hero, i think that she should have her damage buffed while her hack is nerfed in someway. this will iron out the character in low and top level play. currently she is very team dependent which is why she is so strong in OWL, but i think this will change in OW2 since they are changing the philosophy of the game to reward the solo value of each player
When are people gonna realise that niche heroes tend to be niche for a reason? Can you imagine going up against heroes like Mei, Bastion, Sombra, every game, if they were good picks? The very thought of it makes me shiver.

Sombra is basically in a position that is effectively a reverse position of the rest of the weak heroes right now. Heroes like Junkrat, Pharah, Sym, Bastion, etc are all good at low ranks but trash at the very top. A hero like Sombra is trash on ladder but good in the pro organized setting. Because of both of these niches neither end will get buffed.
or she could be reworked to be playable but not oppressive in all ranks. she is only a good character when used to counter specific characters, or when used in an environment with a lot of team coordination, which is bad design in the solo queue environment overwatch and most online team games have
