With the talks of trying 6v6 again, why not implement bans?

Most competitive games usually allow you to ban a character before the match begins, why not add that to normal overwatch, I feel like that can really spice up gameplay if a certain meta is strong.

(Of course though I dont think you can add that to QP)

It would also possibly give the devs more player input on certain characters if they are constantly banned in all ranks more then others.

Why is Ban system even related?

I personally may agree if it only applies to GM and above comps or eSports scenes. But not QP or low elo because it’s a waste of resource IMO.

Spice up the gameplay by always banning the same hero, yes. It works wonders in other games. Lots of variety by reducing the amount of heroes you can select.

It depends. Sometimes it’s a perception issue more than a balance issue. And they understand which heroes need tweaked under that logic as of right now. It would not change anything.

Yeah but like theoretically, if Brig was being banned constantly in all ranks it would warrant at minimum a look at by the devs to understand why.

With $20+ skins, denying someone from then using said hero and skin would cause even more problems.

I think hero bans could have worked back in Ow1 where you played to earn skins, but it wouldn’t fly in Ow2 when there’s people who spend crazy amounts on cosmetics even though they can’t really see it in game.

They have already talked about hero bans as something that may try if they can get a proper system built around it. But it takes time, as to not have the system make the game work worse than before, like when do the bans take place? Before you see the enemy players names? How many and of what roles get banned per match? There is alot to go through before implementing the system.

They do have experience with it though through esports so it isnt something foreign to the devs I believe.

Hero bans have already been tested, and failed

I consider hero bans to be the second worst thing ever added to OW…not nearly bad as 222/122, but extremely bad nonetheless

With esports its just a handshake agreed upon method, not something coded into the game most often. One main issue talked about is seeing the enemy team then banning one of their most played characters if you know who your going against or they have their profile not hidden. So you would need to add a new step to matchmaking where you do the bannings before you even see the enemy team in the lobby and such.

Why add bans when your not hardlocked to a choice its really not neccessary and if they ever added that we would never ever see sombras again cause i promise you she will be the number one pick on both teams.

The problem with bans is exactly what you’re saying though. Let’s say Brig is banned every game. Let’s say I want to play Brig. If she’s banned every game I can’t play her, and there aren’t enough heroes who crossover to fill the same niche. With that said, then I probably just wouldn’t play. I know that it’s unlikely that the same hero gets locked out over and over, but the problem is still the same. If a person has a preferred style of play, and they can’t do that, then they just won’t play at all. We want queue times to be good, and so it’s best to not restrict players where we can help it, at least until there is more hero crossover so people can play similar heroes when their preferred heroes are locked out.

Sombra, Widow, Pharah, Mauga and Hog. One or more of those 5 would probably be locked every match.

widow would only be locked on certain maps but ya id agree she would be added if players knew the person was a widow one trick. One reason to always use streamermode in ranked tbh so people dont recognize your picks. I cant imagine hog tho hes still like the worst tank he is only oppressive during his ult and I almost never see him played in ranked. Mauga is def used a lot right now

Hog is like Widow, on certain maps hes unkillable near a corner but can keep hooking people off the map on cooldown.

ya thats true hes very map dependent for a pick i have a few friends who were HOG Off tank mains during our overwatch 1 days and I think they sorta miss him being able to be played like that where hes not the primary focus all the time

There could be cases where characters are banned bc they just got a new expensive skin, like the LoL $500 skin
