I don’t play him much but he seems to do absolutely nothing with his ult than be an ult battery.
I have never seen him get 1 kill consistently or win fights with his ult. He seems pretty weak esp against damage.
Poor winston, really needs an ult rework and some buffs to his base kit as well.

He can be easily killed and the ult hardly wins fights. How come every tank has a damage focussed ult and a 1 ton gorrila can only scratch everyones nose?
I actually feel bad hitting Q as mccree and deleting him while he juggles me for 5 seconds or jus tracc and delete him as soldier.
I really feel bad for winston players and the character in general. He needs some buffs. To people who say otherwise are just selfish or never played him much in current scenario.
I thought he doesn’t give enemy ult charge while ulting?
Anyways Winston needs serious buffs because he’s in the bottom of every rank.
His ult is also meh.
It’s not really meant to get kills. It’s more meant to displace the enemy team and take space for their own team. Using knockback on some maps I’ve gotten 3 or 4 kills with primal a few times however
Winston may be one of the weaker tank picks right now, but that doesn’t really have much to do with Primal for most ranks. You wouldn’t see much of this even if he was meta.
You won’t see many Winstons racking up kills with Primal because it’s the most difficult ult in the game to use. Effectively disrupting and/or juggling opponents every ult is a skill reserved for the top 0.1% of Winston players.
Winston’s ult isn’t about kills, it is one of the best displacement ults in the game.
It used to be excellent for stalling, or for recontesting, but the damage creep has stripped that power from it. He just drops sooo fast to focus fire now. You can kill a Primal Monkey in something like 1.5 seconds if you have the right comp these days.
That said, Winston is still quite strong at most ranks. He’s difficult to use well, and he’s not great at securing kills solo, but that’s also not what he was designed to do. His bubble is amazing, easily the best shield in the game. And his mobility is excellent, overall.
He’s probably not the strongest tank in the game anymore, but people sleep on Monkey. The Rein changes hurt him, a bit. But he’s still solid.
Even still, whole hog isn’t exactly a great ult to begin with, but offensively it does everything Winston’s ult does… But better?
I’m fond of the idea of letting him use his bubble during it. I’m fond of the idea of giving him another ability during its duration that lets him grapple and throw an enemy. Just something? Anything? I don’t mind playing monkey, but everytime I charge his ult up I’m just like “sigh. Here we go.”
It boggles my mind that Winston beat doom in a 1v1 by essentially wiggling his arms on top of him. A man with a giant metal fist that can topple skyscrapers in a single punch was bested by a legally blind gorilla who was essentially a wannabe circus juggler in the duel. I dunno.
Hog’s ult makes him a sitting duck, though. He’s locked into the animation and can only crawl along while Winston can fly every two seconds during his. There are pros and cons to both but Winston’s is much more flexible.
i would say its easier then genjis ult, though that doesnt lessen the skill curve.
genjis ult is more intuitive to most of the player base for some reason, winstons takes practice to know what you can do with it.
the main thing beside combining movement with booping to learn is what not to juggle.
i.e dont bother targeting/ focusing a soldier 76, a moira, or even a mercy.
soldier 76 with his biotic field and a mercy pocket nullifies your damage, and he can even run away from you long enough to waste your ult.
Yeah its pretty weak imo, worst case scenario it turns him into a huge ult battery. I think they should lower the ult gain so killing a rage monkey gives you the same ult charge as killing regular monkey .
Good on some maps though, if there are potential for env kills or if he can punch people into a corner and bully them to death. Have also seen him punch people into a minefield which was both funny and awesome.
Its the hardest ult in the game to master, your using it a lot more as a way to disrupt mostly, it can also kill. Ill argue really really good monkey ult can effectively be almost as good as a grav, if used well. But in current state what makes winston really weak, is that brig basically counters everything around him.
It has its uses. Great for isolating and singling out parts of the enemy team, or causing disruptions which don’t necessarily have a value that can be immediately recognized.
Which is the real issue at heart: He does more with it, when used properly, than you might realize.
His ultimate is situational. It can be used for stalls and disruption. But honestly it’s pretty good if you get 1 kill with it consistently. And it’s really difficult to use. Personally I think they should buff Winston in some way, perhaps give him a right click ability of some kind (donkey punch )
