its really not even close. its not hard to explain
Winston has little to no protection to himself. his playstyle “diving” is dead. his primary does slow dps that is outhealed by half the support roster signularly. hes a giant hitbox. with no damage reduction like hog. and he has less health than hog. and he does less damage than hog
his ultimate sucks. hes horrific. I hate. I HATE having winston on my team. do you understand?. hes awful. he does nothing well. every game trying to push to a point with winston
jumps in (or doesn’t jump in)-> dies instantly. wait until he gets his ult-> ults. dies again because his ultimate is clunky and hes a threat to nothing when he ults. -> repeat
he doesn’t have a game changing ult. he provides little protection to his team . an awful immoveable barrier that is easily broken. and thats it. he has no burst damage. like lord.
what did he do to be this bad for this long?. what did he do?.

Remember that ape uprising on the Moon that he pretends he had no part in? Yeah, well, he left a lot out of that story . . .
He’s also never been to the moon.
If anything Winston should be considered a balance reference and the other tanks should be nerfed to his power level. Only this way to make Winston more viable without major changes.
Otherwise they should give him a M2 (right click) that focus his electric beam on a solo target and does more damage, but consumes more ammo. One other option is to buff dive-supports. Like Mercy 60 hps? Zen better harmony orb uptime (improve his orb switching targets?), this kind of things.

hes good if said player knows how to winston correctly. and also on enemy team composition. also depends on which rank your at. lower ranks he will annihilate them. higher ranks he needs team support.

Winston is pretty good on maps with important high ground. Winston can drop down on something and use monkey jump to get back to safety.
I disagree with your ult assessment. Primal Rage is a good way to disrupt damage/healing coming out of enemy team. If you know what you are doing, you can get a kill with it.

I love winston he my favourite tank to play.
I also play sombra and winston jump is sorta like sombra translocator you need to know where you going and where you going to reposition or escape to.
What I found out with winston is players in low elo never use cover they never use their abilities correctly and they dive on targets that arnt dive able. Like a bastion or reaper pick your target and dont go out looking for straight kills. Because that isnt your job.
Your job is to create space for your team by blocking line of sight of the enemy with your bubble and jumping on targets you can jump on.
Also another thing low elo winston players do they try and fight heros like rein and orisa and its crazy you cant do nothing to tanks. Fix your play then that fix your rank get good.
Stop playing winston into counters stop playing winston into other main tanks and learn how to use your abilities correctly

Yeah, nerfing tanks to be as useless as Winston doesn’t make Winston a better tank, it just makes the tank role bad.

Started playing Winston more with the recent bans and he’s better than you think. He just plays completely different to other and so people don’t know how to use or work with him.

Imo he needs some minor survivability buffs (replace some hp with armor.) And buff/rework his ultimate cause it feels REALLY dated with the power creep of cc+damage characters.
It was fine in 2017-18 but now it’s just really bad.
Idk, i still see Winstons and Genjis dive right out the gate and instantly drop people.
He does seem like he is outshined in his main job(desperation node holding) by Hamster.
My biggest problem with his ult is that he feeds 1000 dmg to the enemy for free

But…but… Environmental kills!
It really shouldn’t give ult charge. Or give it at a reduced rate. Cause for a self survivability ult, he gets more survivability from his shield…
One problem is Winston’s hard counters are REALLY hard counters.
Bastion deletes you in 2 seconds and you can do nothing to fight back
Reaper can’t be bubble-danced anymore due to his life steal
Brigette will stun you into oblivion once you dive in
Moira can just disappear
Ana can sleep you easy cuz of the giant hitbox
Rein can’t be booped effectively during your ult
Hog takes 2 hours to zap to death
Mcree and Hanzo melt you
Dark times for winston, dark times indeed
