I wish I had the sense of how to do the former. He just feels so weird to me. I wish he had a ranged right-click to help soften targets before diving.

I feel the same way. He can’t kill anything squishy that’s being healed. And if he goes after a support, they just heal each other. And if they’re playing Zen then they’re asking to be dived.
But i agree, even a charged bolt of lightning from his gun, or something similar to a sym ball to poke damage.
Whoa, easy, fella. This isn’t Mario kart.
But they could add something for him, maybe a charged shot, or something that messes their movement for some seconds (you know, electricity and all, could mess with the brains electric signals ).

if only he was a good hero 
You’re almost never gonna find a character like Winston in another FPS game. A talking monkey from the moon with a taser and a jetpack? Now that’s awesome. Overwatch has such cool characters and that’s what I love about it.
