I’ve been seeing Winston popping off all day. It’s wild. His main counters got indirectly nerfed.

Nah, he is definitely stronger, but his counters are also insanely good. I was forced off winston by a zen + hanzo or bastion.

Zen can kick you out of bubble.
What? Zen is one of the better Supports against monkey.
And you can walk back in/kill him while it’s between you and him?
He’s easily the most diveable support.

Winston is a good hero with very strong counterpicks. If people don’t play shotguns into him and let him dive for free it’s a piece of cake. Now even more so because with increased dmg you actually dmg people through pocket of Mercy for example. Winston is pretty good but the moment they go counters you can’t play the game.
All of the shotgun heroes were indirectly nerfed by the changes.
How so? And even if that’s the case Winston still needs to get away from Torb on Overload or Reaper asap. I very rarely see a Winston player who dares to play into my Reaper. It’s only playable if rest of his team is rolling me like a good Sojourn keeps me at bay so he can play the game. If not then you just hold W into him and force him out before he can kill anything and then chase him when he jumps away or go for someone else. Very trivial to beat Winston if you use certain heroes.
But I don’t envy Widow players on this patch when they go against Winston. More melee dmg, 75 dps, you explode to the combo of his.

Reaper is way more vulnerable thanks to the increased hitbox sizes. Hog and JQ are disproportionately affected by the healing nerfs.

To Winston he is not xd. He obliterates Winston just like he used to and he got extra hp so he can’t be one shot by anything outside of full charge widow. Not even Hog kills him anymore. Imo Reaper is better now, especially with dps passive.
300 hp and lifesteal is a very chonky boy.
There’s also the way that Winston’s DPS was upscaled to preserve his TTK which, of course, makes it so that it’s harder to pocket through his damage. I think he’s done well out of this patch as far as tanks go. I won’t be surprised if higher ranks pick him for dive maps given that even my scrub behind is tempted to.

Yeah, if he’s 1v1 on Winston, which he’s not. He has to be good against Winston when contextualized in his team.
Soldier/Sojourn/Hanzo absolutely shred Reaper when he’s trying to close in, or even once he is in.

You cant go on a direct resource based battle with him, you have to go after his supports, you don’t need to kill them just keep them of healing monkey when it commits, someone has to do this like doom genji or tracer
That’s how you tilt the monke.
I’m not saying he’s unbeatable, just saying that he’s too strong for how little input it takes. It’s way harder to deal with him.
He is not as tough as Doomfist or ball but he is not easy to execute, like if enemy team starts countering it will take all your effort to still be on winton.
Esp anyone tilted by monke goes bastion nowadays.
That said all dive heroes except tracer are like this they are oppressive on those they counter while getting oppressed when they are countered.
Only tracer and reddit lucios are free of this.
And you can absolutely create comps where Winston has no vulnerable targets to dive. Something like Mauga + Reaper + Torb + Brig + Bap and Winston is so useless it’s not even funny. Not everyone has to pick counters of course, but as long you have decent survability and dmg in your comp Winston is piss ez to deal with. It’s the comps like Sigma + Widow + Genji that struggle vs Winston. Not enough dmg to force him out and he zaps you to death.
Soldier is easy to kill when you flank him. Sojourn is busted and Hanzo always had upper hand against Reaper. Snipers in general roll Reaper. But he is pretty good into most supports and most tanks. So the skill is to stay away from stuff that destroy you and to engage on stuff that you destroy instead. Hide in corners, doorways and just let them come into you.
Winston is a pretty high skill hero. I don’t know if he’s too strong yet, maybe. But let’s not call him low effort. That’s a statement that makes me question everything else being said.

I think the idea is he can keep you from your bubble, once you have been kicked out. He comes out after you.
