For anyone who lost the ability to hear footsteps, hit registration, and headshot dings after Windows 10’s 1st large update, Windows 11 has fixed the issue. There’s one plus for anyone who wants to update.
How on earth does widows 10/11 have anything to do with overwatch sounds not working
Side note I dont plan on getting windows 11 for a while tbh
wait h u h?
i have no idea how operating systems work and everything, but that would be such an odd fix
guess we’ll see in like 2 days when its released.
The only thing I can speculate is that Windows 10 is having issues with certain Spatial Sound properties that may be causing the issues described. I keep Spatial Sound turned off and instead rely on the sound driver features from Razer Synapse.
This is exactly what was happening for me and I’d see the issue posted from time to time in the technical and bug threads since a Windows 10 update around 4 years back. Windows 11 has fixed the spatial sound issues, so for anyone who has been frustrated with it like I have, here’s a possible fix. Hopefully, they don’t screw it up again in an update.
Ew. I don’t want to playtest windows 11 just so I can have functioning audio systems.
Does anyone here use windows 11? Did they at least keep the desktop browser the same? If it looks like some touchscreen IOS crap then bye bye. I will hold on to windows 10 until they force me off it like with windows 7.
I never had issues with the sounds. Idk how ppl are even getting these.
Search Footsteps or spatial sound. It didn’t happen to every computer, but it affected quite a few users.
I would also recommend to not update. I am sure it will mess with a lot of games in the future and other programs. If you only use office and a browser? Sure but otherwise stay away!
i literally never had the problem until I updated to windows 11. Currently experiencing all the sound issues you described would be fixed lmao
hmm still not gonna download windows 11. maybe 5 years down the road. i bet its causing problems for some other games, gpu’s or whatever
I feel like troll post? Since it’s been four days, this is your first post, and you seeked out this target.
Like New world with the 3090.
dam your lucky if you have a 3090. i still have a 2080 ti
not a troll post. I made one earlier today after having the issue since I updated windows…
Update:
I had been using Peace EQ on Win10. Uninstalled that and also enabled spatial audio(didn’t even realize that was a thing) and sounds are registering again? Still not sure what either of those things have to do with hearing specific things in OW, but it may have been something to do with the EQ clipping levels above a threshold?? Anyways, sorry for barging in.
May be unrelated but I’m having sound issues in Dark Souls 3 right now and I’m using Windows 10
Lots of sounds cut out or play the first 5% of the sound effect only. And then moving cursors anywhere in any menu will reset the ambient noise back to 0% volume every single cursor move
In OW, I’ve also been experiencing moments when the sound processing gets “overloaded” and everything goes silent for a split second as if my audio peaked and it muted the volume to protect itself
It was really weird. Compared to other apps, OW output had what I’d consider marginally quieter levels, but there was never a point where the sound cut off altogether. Very disorienting to feel like I’m hearing the game correctly only to see the dmg indicator on my HUD flash, turn around, and see a tracer right behind me. I’m still not sure how to explain what was happening lol.
Didnt make any difference for me. Except now causing very random unexplained FPS Drop.
It’s the driver / card that’s at fault there, not New World / OS.
Those cards are bricking because they are exceeding their rated power limit which is up to the driver to regulate. Either there is defective hardware on the video card or the driver is not properly capping the power. It could be either honestly, as Nvidia already had problems when the 3000 series launched with the drivers and hardware. They had hardware issues with the 2000 series as well.
It’s a weird issue, although I don’t experience it myself; just weird to read about it.
I’m on Windows 10, latest update. But I’m using integrated sound from a B350 chipset motherboard (which dates back to January 2017 tech), and do not use advanced sound features (I.E. “disable all enhancements” is selected); and everything works fine in all my games including OW (and yes I hear headshot dings and footsteps).
Same here. First time experiencing this and I recently updated to Windows 11. A mistake I guess
