I enabled the Antivirus features of Windows 10 v2004 and am getting a LOT of notifications when I start Overwatch:
Protected Memory access blocked

Sure hope you don’t ban my account due to this…
Make sure Overwatch is whitelisted. Sometimes updates will remove previous exceptions. If you need assistance with whitelisting, you may need to consult Microsoft’s documentation or assistance resources.
I am fully aware of how to add exceptions, my concern is WHY I have to add an exception.
What exactly is the Overwatch/Blizzard client doing that needs an exception. Color me wary…
Writing and editing files on your hard drive to display images in the game. Using your network connection to connect to the game and receive data from their servers.
Practically every other program I have installed does reads/writes to my drive, but Overwatch is the only one that has this notification happening? I don’t think your explanation is sufficient and I’ll be darned if I just allow unexplained behavior like this.
Chuckles,
You’re on a beta OS right now. That typically means bugs - among which, definitions file incompatibilities, etc.
If it turns out that there’s a definitions problem on release of windows 10 2004, we’ll end up getting it reported to Microsoft. What you should do is report the incorrect flagging to Microsoft so they can add exceptions in their exclusions. Usually they’ll catch it themselves, but not always.
I can’t speak to how Windows Defender runs their heuristics, because I don’t work for Microsoft, but ultimately, this is a readily fixable problem which usually gets handled before an insider preview build gets released to the whole public. And if it doesn’t - we can just report it up once that happens.
Appreciate the report anyway.
