Win Conditions Cheat Sheet (Do These or Lose)

If you want to give yourself a shot of winning you NEED to do the following. Otherwise it’s a soft throw.

1. Enemy Team has Double Sniper/One good sniper
You HAVE to pick Orisa and zone them out. No substitutes.
a) Sigma: Not good enough. No long range, unreliable shield
b) Rein: Not good enough. Sniper will kill him as soon as shield goes
c) Winston: Used to counter Hanzo. No longer.
d) Hammond: Maybe…if they know what to do

2. Enemy Team has a Moira
You HAVE to pick Moira in return. No substitutes.

3. Enemy Team has a shield tank
You HAVE to take another shield tank, or be a god like Hammond/Winston. Most probably your Hammon/Winston will not be godlike

4. Enemy Doomfist/Hammond/Lucio is Destroying Your Backline
You need a defensive Sombra.
Or if you won’t get a defensive Sombra, pick Brigitte. Not the best counter, but can disrupt them both if played well.

Other picks are viable ONLY if they’re good enough. Sombra however, can neutralize them as long as she stays behind her team and doesn’t do stupid stuff like flanking etc.

Mei: Might not be good enough
McCree: Might not be good enough
Reaper: Might not be enough
Hog: Might miss hook

Remember: If you don’t follow these win conditions, you WILL lose. And for god’s sake, do the right thing as soon as you realize the match condition. Not 10 seconds before the match ends. So many times I’ve seen people bite the bullet and do what needs to be done only in the last few desperate seconds of a match.

Save yourself and your team. Switch at the start.

This goldmine.

Actually, you should take the first teamfight to actually assess the red team’s potency.

But I agree with all of it

The whole mirror Moira or lose thing is getting old. At first I thought she was just greatly facilitated by the meta, but even when neither team is running double barrier I struggle to beat Moira without one of my own.

Maybe she’s just greatly facilitated by 222, or simply by having at least one barrier tank on her side.

And, that sums up what’s wrong with this game, as a whole. Too much “swap or lose” and “mirror match to win”. Thats not a good way to design things. Especially, when it comes to things, like hard counters.

What having a system like this does, especially with the implementation of 222, is it almost forces everyone to learn every hero (and play them at the same proficiency), in their role. And that is an insane thing to ask.

It takes dozens to hundreds of hours, to “get down”/understand a Hero and their strengths and weaknesses. Few people have that kind of time to dedicate to something like that. Why do you think one tricking and sub-role specializing (Like, Hitscan DPS), is so popular? Its because its a “better” use of your time, statistically.

For example, lets say two people have 500 hours, in the game. One used that time to try and learn all 16 DPS Heroes, the other just focused on McCree, Ashe, Solider, and Widow. Now, if you need a Hitscan, what player are you going to want? Probably the guy that spent his time learning hitscan Heroes. But, there will be times that you may need a symmetra or torb, and that Hitscan Specialist will be useless. Because, in that scenario, having some time, on a Hero, is better than none.

But, both sides are still problematic. On one hand, you’ll have a player that’s really good at one thing, but sucks at another. On the other hand, you’ll have someone who doesn’t excel at any Hero, in particular, but can really help you out, in a pinch. The only way to get the best of both of these, is to dedicate unrealistic amounts of time, learning a large hero pool. And, as I said before, most people just don’t have that much free time, on their hands.

Edit:

Honestly, in some ways, I think the introduction of 222, made this problem even worse. At least, before, if you needed somebody to play a specific role or hero, you had 6 chances that someone could play what you needed. Now, if you need something, like a Sombra, and neither of your DPS players know how to play her, youre just SOL. It won’t matter if one of your tank players, can also play her, and one of those DPS players can also play tank, because no one can swap roles, anymore.
