Will we one day see OW1 coexist as a separate game with OW2?

Do you think that, one day … maybe… we’ll be able to select “Overwatch Classic” from the dropdown menu in the Blizzard Launcher, and play the game as it was in September of 2022, with its old scoreboard, level borders and progression, endgame cards, /region chat in the menu and of course lootboxes (i.e. free skins)? In other words, just like WoW players can play Retail or Classic or other versions of their game.

I lot of the newer playerbase would say that “it would divide the playerbase”, but did Blizzard mull over back then if their move of deleting Overwatch 1 would “divide the playerbase”? No, they didn’t. The decision was taken to delete the original game and replace it with a new monetization model.

Anyway, Overwatch Classic is a step in the right direction, but I don’t think it will ever replace OW 2, and it shouldn’t, considering how many new players like the game as it is right now, and I respect that. But I mean, I wouldn’t want to see forever a single window in the “Arcade” menu where I can play 6v6… Of course it is absolutely better than nothing, but still feels very excluding, … like… no comp mode, no level borders, no oldschool scoreboard, no endgame cards…

I.e. playing 6v6 with OW 2 interface feels just… cheap.

So, anyway, considering paid lootboxes are considered gambling, remove them altogether, put a skin shop in OW 1 so as to monetize it, and give one free lootbox per level up… That will increase Blizzard’s profits right? And I understand that as a huge corporation profit is the only language Blizzard speak, which is understandable.

Opinions? OW 1 from the dropdown menu one day… possibility or… ?

I really hate the OW2 interface - it’s garbage.

If they bring back OW1 with the original aesthetic - I’ll download and play as much as I’ve been this past week.

As soon as OW Classic leaves, I’ll uninstall it again.

No, we won’t. That’s the answer, overwatch classic will be brought back throughout OW2’s lifetime to boost player count, but there will never be a day when they exist together at the same time permanently imo

Like WoW in the sense of being able to choose a different version of the game from the dropdown Launcher menu.

Short answer No.

Long answer: it feels cheap to you because of nostalgia. The interface in 2022 was not the same interface that it was in 2016. Furthermore they did not delete OW1. They did not delete OW1 when they added hero limits. They did not delete OW1 when they added RQ and they did not delete OW1 here. All they did was a pretty normal patch that most long running games have that also came with a name change.

I get that nostalgia is really powerful which is why people can look past a lot of the flaws in launch OW (and there were a LOT) but I find it cute the very people who were saying OW2 was not a sequel are now saying they killed OW1. It cant be both.

Only if someone make a private server with the OW1 files.

Can we stop with this nonsense? We have seen OW1 and OW2 back to back when OW2 was still in beta. We also got classic.
OW2 is objectively worse in almost all aspects.

Actually no, the ultimate claim of “nostalgia” cannot be magically copy/pasted in every example to explain away valid arguments.

Having your level border in the left corner is better than not having it - it is better having it now, it was better having it 8 years ago, it will always be better having it. It was a visual representation of your time investment and effort to play the game, and it was just nice having those borders because they just looked cool.

Getting a free lootbox on each level up with a chance to get a cool skin will always beat dropping 40 bucks for a single skin.

The old scoreboard sort of ‘opposed’ team vs team, player vs player, because it was horizontal, and you could see your medals and the level borders as well; the “on-fire” was more visible too. In a nutshell it was simply better than the simplistic thing OW 2 uses.

All they did was a pretty normal patch that most long running games have that also came with a name change.

Eh, normal patch? How normal is it to delete the old game, cull 2 players from the new game (a change absolutely nobody asked for in the history of OW 1, ever), know that the PVE would never be released but announce it regardless so as to sell more copies, and remove the free lootboxes / free skins so as to replace them with a predatory shop.

Absolutely normal patch there folks…

Pretty normal. Or we could stand still in time life TF. No thanks.
Ever play Team Fortress 1?

Look around at shops, the OW shop is in fact pretty normal. Turns out, Blizzard isn’t the only company that wants your money. Who could have known?

What about it? If you have bought it, you still own it… and even can buy it right now.

Can’t say the same for OW1, can you?

Exactly
How many people are playing it?
Go on, I’ll let you go look right now

That’s so far from the truth it hurts. Classic is absolutely terrible lol. But I’m glad you like it, I hope the let you play it more.

They need to completely open up ow1 and stop playing their nonsense of trying to get 6v6 folks to enjoy this game and then possibly trying to get 5v5 folks to like a game they didn’t like before. The entire issue is not letting people play the game they bought, played, and enjoyed. I’d be pissed if they got rid of 5v5 just like the old players were pissed when they moved to it.

Dude as divisive as the community naturally is?

HAH!!!

Not to be rude but we’ve been fighting and arguing for years trying to redefine what gaming is and look at us now 7 years later.

Just a sad shell.

The word objectively does not mean what you think it means. Case in point I could easily say OW2 is better in all aspects except for playing dress up. The fact that I can just as easily make that point and it is equally valid means you are not using the word objective correctly.

Medals were useless, had zero context, and gave drastically information than the current scoreboard. Arguing the medal system is better is the height of nostalgia.

Also the cute thing about that level border is the sheer amount of toxicity it spawned. I would prefer if it could come back in some form but the way it existed in the past was terrible and on multiple occasions I would be stuck in a voice chat where someone would berate one of their teammates the entire match based purely on their border and every mistake was because of it.

Also the normal patch had basically 1 years worth of content in it plus a rule change and we have had multiple rule changes over the years as I mentioned with RQ and hero limits. If you think RQ and hero limits amounts to deleting OW1 then you think OW1 was deleted in 2016. What a short lifespan as OW lived only a few months.

If you think the shop changes, aka the changes to playing dress up, amounted to deleting OW1 then you think LoL has been deleted twice (possibly 3x but I dont know enough about one of the iterations to call it that) and CS GO 3x. That is ignoring the other games that have done similar major updates of that sort. Its basically the most common thing to do. So yes the OW2 patch was a normal patch that if it didnt change the name of the game nobody would even stop to question it and say it should have a new name.

just delete overwatch 2 forever, it wasnt even made, and let overwatch 1 be the better game

numbers didnt move at all, the same playerbase, lol not even ow classic makes people want to play this, classic queue times are instantaneous, i have no idea if 5vs5 has changed at all, this season i only played classic, so, it divided the playerbase?

I agree with you, I really don’t like OW2 new interface and UI, lobby, leaderboard.

When OWClassic was out on 12 November, I came back to play 6v6 again until December 3 and I’ll uninstall OW2 again.
