essentially just another archives mission. not a whole campaign or anything major. Heck, they can even re-use assets if needed TBH.
eh, who knows.

No. But I wish we could get the old archives missions back
Some Events will be PvE like the one in Antartica or Halloween.
I think its the most PvE content we’ll get unless OW dev team receives billions of dollars suddenly.
The best hope for PvE is that a new project for OW IP is started from the remnants fo the old project and given its own game.
Hopefully they don’t waste their time on more pve. I just don’t really get the point of a mission you play once or twice and never play it again because it’s the same thing
That’s a very good question.
They recently rehired someone to work on PvE in Team 4. It’s possible that they shifted the PvE jobs over to the rest of the team. According to former staff, campaign missions were supposed to release every 18 months. And sure enough, February is exactly 18 months since the Invasion PvE missions dropped.
So I guess we’ll see in February what’s going to happen.
This the trap that most people fall into because there are numerous shooters that are extremely popular as co-op pve games. Blizzard just designed it as a throwaway cinematic campaign like CoD games with limited replayability.
Deep Rock Galactic has 267k positive reviews (97% are positive). The 24hr peak was 9.5k people playing after having been out since 2018.
Left 4 Dead 2 has a 24hr peak of 33k players and the games been out since 2012.
Warframe 24hr peak 53k players. Game has been out since 2014 as well.
Helldivers 2 was a very recent addition to the TPS/FPS co-op PvE games.
We also have the entire co-op Borderlands franchise as history for first person shooter PvE games.
I agree it’s a shame because overwatch mechanics are fun, so an overwatch pve in the spirit of these games would UNBELIEVABLY FUN. I have like 300 hours across the borderlands series borderlands, 3k hours in monster hunter world / rise (and im sure i’ll put hundreds of hours into wilds when that comes out. not fps but pve coop so idk whatever), like 50 hours in drg, a couple dozen in l4d2. I never really got into warframe but it had really fun gameplay.
I was kinda excited for hero gauntlet but the depth just wasn’t there. The diablo 4 mode was okay but the bots just weren’t that interesting.
The archive missions just don’t really do it.
I originally excused Overwatch PvE archives because its like they are trying to shoehorn in PvE experience into a game not designed for it. Its like, alright, I can get behind this limited scope. Maybe they might someday get budget to make it its own game.
With the development of PvE going on, I thought they might redo the game engine to basically build in more PvE elements and make effectively a better archives. The result was sadly an updated archives experience. With less emphasis on replayability (no all heroes) and no modifiers or custom game modes.
Overwatch PvE already exists. It’s just not called Overwatch. It also swaps fapbait characters and GaaS garbage for actual quality gameplay.
No, I’m not telling you what it’s called, because I don’t want overwatch players ruining that like they ruined this.
my dear friend, i dont even think there will be any more ow by next year if they continue doing nothing and marvel rivals continue kicking it. they stopped making events, comics, cinematics, is over
yeah right, the hell with single player games
If it’s gonna come at the cost of the PVP game we already have, then yes I completely agree; to hell with it indeed. I love single player or pve coop games like I mentioned above, it just doesn’t make a lot of sense for overwatch to do that. It would need an entirely separate dev team and I just don’t see it happening anymore
It just seems like a big resource investment to make missions or even an entire campaign for something people will only play once. We saw how well it went last time they tried to make a pve at the cost of the existing PVP.
I’d rather just have more heroes, maps, reworks, and game systems than more archive missions
Other dedicated single player games will fulfill that role much better than a pvp game cosplaying as a pve game
overwatch 2 never came out yet it cost the pvp we already had, forced a 5vs5 changed nobody liked, nobody asked, nobody wants, ow1 abandoned was a lot better than ow2 with constant and trash updates, if i knew how bad ow2 pvp was going to be i would be more than happy they keep working on pve and let pvp avandoned, is not like we get anything in the last 2 years with ow2 anyway
thats why they would be replayable, with skill trees and a lot of missions, ddduuhhhhhh, making new parts of old maps, cinematics
more trash heroes with no conection with the lore, awfull new maps from new modes that destroyed overwatch, rewords that are trash and ruin the identity of every character and what game systems are you even talking about, the super rewarding progression or what? telling a story is more interesting than doing nothing really
At Blizzcon 2023, Walter Kong (General Manager for the Overwatch franchise) said that the focus for Overwatch would be PVP.
That’s the closest we’ve got to “PVE Story Mode is cancelled” but they didn’t outright say it, either because:
Only time will tell.
Keep your expectations about PVE content low and you might be pleasantly surprised. Worst case, you won’t be disappointed.
and then on the same blizzcon and before that they keep promising a lot of pve missions
Yeah just give them another 6-8 years? I’m sure they’ll figure out this time lol
It’s a pvp game. Story is nice but not at the cost of the pvp game.
If you mean random PvE modes like halloween, etc, sure.
If you mean the OW2 history PvE missions, 99.99% sure no.
the had 6 years, two or thee more would be fine, again, we would have missed nothing if they never relased ow2 until pve was done
oh and how well the game is doing now with 110% of the focus on pvp? they cant even do a good balance patch for 5vs5, we are not in the doom era anymore, story, lore, characters, interactions, thats what make a game special, not just an excuse to shoot, lore made overwatch something unique, people were more excited for the cinematics than any balance batch in 2016, not a coincidence when they drop the story game went to crap
“…we just need the money”
(Proceed to make more overpriced shop skins instead of actually working on the PvE)
Yeah, i already gave up on their PvE promises.
