The existence of Overwatch is illegal and everyone in the Zero Hour cinematic is a criminal, especially Winston.
Place your bets now on how Blizzard will handle this:
A.) Ignore this fact and/or retcon it so that Overwatch wasn’t outlawed, it was just a suggestion from the UN that they split up.
B.) Overwatch gets taken to court after everything’s said and done but get pardoned because they only did it to stop another omnic crisis. OR there was actually a recall clause in the law that permits Overwatch to reform in case of second omnic crisis.
C.) PvE misssions where we have to fight International police forces and team up with Talon (begrudgingly) to evade capture.
I, for one, can’t wait to see Winston go primal rage on his lawyer after he gets the bill for his legal fees.

And anwser is neither.
For now they wont be prosecuded, because Nullers attacked world wide and UN have bettrr things to bicker about than bunch of ex-agents doing stuff here and there.
I think topic of illegal military operations will be ignored to point when everything is done, then becomes relevant again. Like “oh yeah, that was a thing. What happend with that?”.
Resolved in matter of one sentence: “It was common misconception that Overwatch was illegal.”
So mix A and B

They all got a new hair cut or a new outfit for a reason, so nobody recognizes them!

I hope Genji got a convincing disguise. I’m sad that he wasn’t in the cinematic.

This isn’t Overwatch engaging in Overwatch activities. It’s Overwatch TWO engaging in Overwatch TWO activities. Totally different lmao.
Winston told that cop Overwatch was back like a dumba**, but Karency has ways to make sure she doesn’t talk.
“You saved the entire world, and humanity as we know it. Please step into the jail cell”
This is why laws sometimes don’t make sense.

OW 2 is set 4 years later. They don’t have to do nothing but have one person say we got the lawsuit thrown out of court. The game could also have missions that deal with this. That’s what’s good about story content.

Makes sense to me. Sounds heroic, willing to go to prison for saving the world.

Willing, yes that is heroic.
And idiotic.
What do you tell the public?
“Hey, so… those people who saved you when WE couldn’t, yea we locked them up.”

‘Sorry folks, it’s the law.’
Then i’d change it just before the next election, personally show up at their release, kiss some hands, shake some babies, and win in a landslide.

Pfffffffft
But seriously, i think in-universe it’ll look something like this:
“We are aware we saved the earth, even under illegal pretenses, and are willing to face the repercussions”
“Government turns to look towards the people of every nation for their reaction to this statement:”
“People of every nation, who would be dead otherwise:”

I mean, Null Sector decided to invade the world in the name of Omnic supremacy. People are gonna need as much help as they can get.
And if ex Overwatch members offered to do so, they are gonna have to accept it.
Imagine if one week after everything is said and done the world just reverted into their old ways.
“We don’t want to be watched any longer”
Like… “We can put the killer robots back, ya know”
D.) They try to arrest or convict this reformed Overwatch team, and Overwatch just say “tough balls” and go do Overwatch things.
I mean… Torb does have an upgraded Bastion wearing his old hat…
Putting them back together is child plays for them :3

They will leave them to fight against Null Sector and/or even support them since its a worldwide crisis. How else would they got that sci-fi floating base from the gameplay trailer?
What base are you referring to?
It will either be ignored, or at some point a political benefactor will step forward to cover for them and/or work to get the act repealed. That with a combination of popular support, could explain law enforcement’s reluctance to move against the new Overwatch.
Or they could end up in a grey area. Some countries welcome the assistance and and support them, while others treat them like criminals.

That orange ring shaped base before they show Sojourn, Lúcio, Mercy and Rein looking at the map for the co-op missions.
