Quickplay - Open Queue has been my primary gamemode and preferred way to play Overwatch for about 2 years now. It hasn’t been playable for a little while now, since the devs replaced it with the 6v6 2-tank limit test mode, but I was pretty okay with that since I’ve just been playing the april fools mode instead, and really enjoying it, and I figured since it was just a test, that it’d return to normal Open Queue eventually. But in the recent dev-blog, they stated the following:
So, does that imply that normal Open Queue won’t be returning yet? Or will the 2-tank limit mode run alongside with normal Open Queue?
I’d be pretty majorly bummed out if normal Open Queue doesn’t return for season 16, since I don’t really enjoy many of the other game modes, and the few other modes that I do enjoy have had such dreadfully long queue times in my experience that queueing for them has just not been worth it imo.

Hopefully it will be brought back at some point!

I hope so as well.
Imo, this is the best mode

I won’t lie; as someone who vastly prefers Max 2 Tanks to 5v5 OQ, I cheered when I read that M2T is sticking around for s16 at the least. But I hope that you guys can get 5v5 OQ in the Arcade or something. There’s probably at least one mode that could afford to get bumped out of there.

Is 6v6 becoming a standard format for Open Queue modes? It’s unclear from the blog, but if that’s not the case, then every team Arcade mode will remain 5v5 OQ at least for a bit longer.

That’s a fair point, actually, and one I’d not considered. I have no idea. I’ve been too busy waving the flag for M2T.
Although to play Devil’s Avocado (
) for a moment: I can imagine folks saying that Low Gravity (or whatever) isn’t the authentic 5v5 OQ experience.

I’d honestly be more than okay with that. I do get that I’m basically part of a small minority of another already small minority [=people who prefer OQ > RQ → people who prefer OQ (no limits) > OQ (M2T)], but I would still like to keep my preferred gamemode around, since I still really enjoy Overwatch and would like to keep playing it.
(Maybe that’s too selfish though. I have been playing OW all the way since 2016, and maybe I should just learn to move on already…)

Sure, but there are non-gimmicky competitive modes in there, as well; 2CP in exile and two CTF modes, for example.
