Will i get banned for using external programs like Spotify or Discord?

Hello!
I have been using Spotify whilst playing Overwatch (to listen to music as i don’t have music enabled in the game) for the past 2 days now, and i just spotted a cheater recently while playing Mystery Deathmatch (sorry, i forgot their name), and that made me think about how sometimes Anti-Cheat systems can’t tell the difference between a cheat/hack, or a normal program. Spotify doesn’t have any Overlay for the game (i.e. makes the game have a different UI), but Discord does, and i have it enabled on Overwatch, even though i never use Discord while playing Overwatch, it does interact with the .exe file of the game, doesn’t it?
Thanks!

EDIT: Thanks S O much to everybody that replied to this post!

streamers sometimes have spotify or discord running in the background while playing ovw and other games so you should be safe

As long as it doesn’t interfere or interact with the game itself I don’t think there is an issue.

I have shadow-play for instance and have had no issues.

I can’t imagine them not supporting discord honestly

No, it’s not anything that gives you an in game advantage, and people sometimes use discord over the in game chat

Nope ! You can’t get banned for anything that adds overlay, but you can get flagged if the system detects specific third party apps that is in direct conflict with the EULA… like uhh… not Pursuit, but that other one… the one that talks to you…

Personally I think Pursuit is the same as Overbuff and shouldn’t be a banned program, but yeah, the Blizzard Client and Overwatch.exe contain systems that detect the better known aim-botting software.

Heck, you can run a craptonne of other programs that clutter your UI more than a Level 999 WoW Player and still be fine.

Absolutely not. The only exception where you can’t use Spotify and/or Discord is if you’re playing in Open Division/Contenders/on the big stage in OWL, which I’m reasonably certain you’re not for the purposes of this thread.

I can’t imagine since World of Warcraft supports Discord, that the Overwatch team would say no to Discord (and this might even drive players away from the game if that was the case).

Discord is 100% a whitelisted program.

And since it does not modify or try to read any data from the Overwatch Client there is little to no chance of getting punished for using it.

If the software is popular I wouldn’t worry about false positives with warden.

If having no other software running was a requirement for OW, Windows wouldn’t even be supported.

Your computer constantly has dozens of programs running in the background that are no different from Spotify or Discord as far as Overwatch is concerned.

If a program doesn’t directly interact with Overwatch you have nothing to fear. If it does, check the forums or google for the specific program, because that’s more of a gray area.

Only apps/programs that collect information from the game, aka insert themselves into the game files are considered bannable

Visor.GG is the add-on in question.

You are fine dude, I’m pretty sure the anti-cheat is not that dumb. I also use Discord all the time whether I play a game or not.
