Most players have their mains, or at least their clump of best heroes. So what happens during a season if, for example, the Ana main finds themself always having to play someone else?
I’d estimate that they would be more likely to lose, right? Well, then over time and across the whole Ana community, they are all deranking. I get it, lots of players flex just fine when someone else picks their main. But it isn’t just one-tricks who are negatively impacted by not having their top hero available. It can only hurt that player’s progress.
But the effects are greater than just deranking.
From the start of that deranking journey until they settle in a tier that accepts them, the team this player is on has a disadvantage. They have a support who can’t play their main, and so the other support might have to carry the role. So now just having an Ana main on your team is a potential handicap. If that player always selects Ana as the preferred hero, will that serve as notice to the rest of the team that this player might need a carry? Maybe not for Sojourn players since there’s other hitscan. But what about the Mercy main?
Now, once these disadvantaged players fall down enough in ranks, they’ll eventually land in a tier that accepts their hero. But now that player picking their main will effectively be a smurf. So enemy teams will be the ones disadvantaged.
Conclusion — There’s gonna be a lot of Ana mains smurfing into middle and lower ranks, unintentionally, and deleting tanks. There’s gonna be some terrifying Sombras making life miserable. There’s gonna be a lot of Sojourn/Mercy duos shredding metal ranks.
Ranked is going to be a complete disaster by the end of the season.

Unless theyre high elo streamer otps blizz (for some silly reason) has putten to many protections, so unless theyre meta otps it probably wont affect most.

Yeah it’ll derank one tricks. It may also derank others who aren’t one-tricks because they happen upon different one tricks whose heroes get banned.
But, h well. I don’t like one tricks anyway. I don’t enjoy playing with people who are inflexible. If that deters one tricks, c’est la vieeeee

I’ll let you in on a little secret. There are almost no Ana one tricks especially in high ranks. Every single T500 Ana player can flex onto Zen, Kiriko, Bap, Juno, Illari and play those heroes at T500 level.
If you’re expecting ML7 to derank to diamond because he’s an Ana main, it ain’t happening.

If that is true, support players are way more skilled than people make them out to be. If they can play half a dozen characters at that level, they are a lot better than most DPS or tank players.

A Venture one-trick? They’ll probably climb now that there’ll be a void left by Sojourn’s perma-bans.

Really depends.
Most high rank 1 tricks can play other heroes but refuse to swap so the occasional ban will be irrelevant. Some can’t and they may derank if their hero is a common ban target. If they’re off meta then the bans won’t be common enough to make a noticeable difference.
Mid rank one tricks may suffer more as they’re less likely to have a wider hero pool and bans will be less meta dependent/predictable as you go further down the ladder.
There’s also the potential for off meta 1 tricks to climb because their hero will be so rarely banned along with their counters being less prevalent if those counters are strong.

Yes, but idk how people onetrick in this game anymore. There’s way too many counters for each hero, not swapping is going to make climbing so much more difficult.
I guess I have a hard time believing that anyone who one-tricks Ana can’t pick (say) Juno and do a good job due to transferable skills.

Most dont actually care about this, all they care about is getting to play their hero, doesnt matter if its causing a loss for their team

I don’t think that’s a concern really OP , and also in order to significantly lose rank to an absurd amount due to bans … you really need to be a ultra non versatile OTP of a hero with near zero transferrable skills.
Those, contrary to popular belief and urban myths, don’t generally climb that much.
Now good luck trying to coordinate bans with a player base that avoids VC and in case of some servers, don’t even speak the same language lol.

Yeah, they will probably derank. People with mains too. It takes time to get good at a hero.
