I’ll explain why. It is NOT OP. NOT too weak either.
The thing is that its accuracy is bad. You can aim at something and it hits something else.
Anyone else have the same problem?

You can actually fix this problem in widow’s settings I think it is under grapple hook accuracy. Trust me I was getting really pissed off too
What is the setting called? I can’t find it. Is it grappling hook sens?
I’m in school and can’t pull it up but if you go options>controls>widowmaker and then scroll down a little there will be character specific settings. Hit the plus sign and it will have a couple of settings and it should be there labeled “grappling hook sensitivity” I think
most broken thing in the game
Widow’s Grappling Hook isn’t a skill shot. It’s a targeted ability, like Orb of Discord or Projected Barrier. We know this because we can change the targeting sensitivity in Widow’s hero-specific settings.
Under the hood, Grappling Hook is like Mercy’s Guardian Angel, and every piece of terrain is dotted with tiny, invisible souls that she zips to after a delay, the length of which is determined by distance.
A simple solution would be to give the point you’re targeting a reticle, like other targeted abilities, so you know where you’re going to end up before you press the button.
you mean DF? Because rocket punch canceling works inconsistently on objects + uppercut’s and slam’s hitboxes are weird because of ping
slam hitboxes are screwy cause every little map object intercepts it… Grappling hook is clearly NOT the most broken thing in the game lol
Or just put the hook where people aim it.
How shocking
Making it a true skill shot would cause issues. Actually getting up to a ledge would be nearly impossible because the size of the area you’d need to hit on a wall and make it over would be incredibly small, especially if you were at the base of the wall. A functional grappling hook is a notoriously difficult thing to implement in FPS games. Most games have a few set areas where grappling is possible, rather than allowing you to shoot the hook anywhere and have it work.
I’m not saying it’s perfect. There are definitely some tuning that needs to be done to the targeting priority and the size/number of targets on surfaces. I’d love to see Widowmaker be able to hang and swing from her grapple like she does in the cinematics.
