Widowmaker ULT line bug?

When Widowmaker uses her ULT she hears it as her English line.

The enemy Widowmaker one is in French.

But the Hero Info example shows Widowmaker using her French line however when you use your own ULT in game it is English.

Why?

In general, ult voice lines are supposed to be teammate English, enemy native language, self native language OR teammate English.

Widowmaker’s native language is French. Seems weird that she doesn’t get to say her ULT in French when even the tutorial video on it is in French.

Every ult basically follows these rules (not just Widowmaker):

  • To self: native language. This means that when the player activates his ult, he will hear the voiceline of his hero in native language.

  • To friendlies: English voicelines. All voicelines are translated and recorded to English from their native voicelines and they are played to your teammates. Your teammates can diffrentiate, for a teammate’s Widow wallhacks from the enemy Widow ult by hearing which language the voiceline is spoken in. English is teammate, French is enemy.

  • To enemies: the voiceline plays in the native language, the same one for self.

General rule: enemies and self have native voicelines, teammates get an English voiceline.

Note: for heroes that have English as a native language (ex: Soldier, McCree, Ashe), or have only recorded English ult voicelines despite a non-English origin (ex: D.Va, Doomfist), you will have to memorize the voicelines unfortunately.

For example:

  • Soldier says “I’ve got you in my sights!” for enemies and self, while for teammates the voiceline is “Tactical visor activated”.

  • Doomfist says “Meteor strike!” for enemies and self, and “Incoming!” for teammates.

Yeah. I know which is why Widowmaker’s is weird. Her native language is French.

Widow had a silent voice line at launch. The self voice line was in English because she was typically the only player who heard it.

The only reason I can think of is that you won’t know the enemy widow has it active if you both happen to use it at the same time cuz unlike other ults it has no visuals to let you know it is active.

Uhm… there is absolutely a visual indicator on the widow’s UI and you see the red outlines even if they are not clustered (eg how hanzo ‘s sonic arrow works) and finally a different red than sombra’s see through walls for low HP.

Or are you just trolling?

(I am guessing trolling)

I am obviously talking about the ult of the enemy widow. :woman_facepalming:

Ah, I was confused since the thread was about how the widow herself (casting widow) hears her voice line in English rather than French like most ults work (self in native language for the hero, or in the case of English speaking hero, e.g. 76, the same line the enemy hears)

To be consistent enemies should hear French, self should hear French, team mates should hear English. (English version of OW).

Thank you. Someone else saying Widow players should hear the French line when they themselves activate the ult. I have been saying that blizzard should give Widow her French line for her self-line for a long time.

I guess it’s consistent with most support-type ultimates.

She should be more consistent with ALL the other non-support heroes when it comes to ult lines.

Isn’t the reason it has it this way so that you always know when the enemy Widowmaker uses her ultimate? If you both have the French voice line, there is a chance you could both use it at the same time and never know as there are no obvious visual indicators that the enemy Widow used her ultimate.

Yeah, it’s weird. At the start of 3.0 Sym would use both the english one and the hindi one - but they made it so she would only use the hindi one (for herself) to bring her in line with other damage heroes. Even though I prefer the english one I thought that was a fair reasoning… then I’m playing Widow and I realise that Widow goes completely against this reasoning, lol.

Her Hindi line is iconic. I wish you could customise it for yourself which voicelines you heard because Baptiste’s Haitian line is the best

I mean yes but I just love her english one too :frowning:

i just had a stroke just trying to read OP.

I just put on subtitles to make it easier for me. In game I am usually aware of the ults going around, but when I’m dead I miss them even with kill cam off, so I use subtitles so I can be sure.

500 IQ post sorry you missed it
