Widowmaker Targeting Emily

I haven’t even started playing the game, yet, when I saw the comic and I immediately thought “What’s to stop Widowmaker from setting her scope on Emily?”

I even imagined a scene where Tracer would come home, one day, with Emily excitedly waiting for her. Tracer would be e.g…: changing into her home clothes, while Emily would be…in the kitchen, cleaning, working on a personal computer or something, so they couldn’t see each other’s face. Emily would start telling Tracer how one of her colleagues from Overwatch showed up while she was out. Tracer, surprised, would ask who it was? And Emily, oblivious, would start telling her the physical description of Widowmaker, saying something like “Oh, it was a woman. Very exotic. Tall, purple skin. Very pretty.” Tracer would freeze and all color would drain from her face. “She said you two were going on an assignment, soon and that you should meet up to go over some details. She told me you should meet her at - and I quote “The spot where you lost twice in a row.” Kind of cryptic. But, I guess she didn’t really want to say anything too specific to me. You know, being professional and all. She seemed like a really serious person. And that accent? I’m kinda jealous.” giggle

And Widowmaker’s code for their meeting location is, of course, a reference to how Tracer failed to protect the life of Mondatta, losing him and losing to Widowmaker, in the process, at King’s Row.

Tracer would, of course, pretend like nothing’s wrong and they’re colleagues and everything, but she’d be both furious (at Widowmaker) and scared (for Emily).

Widowmaker, here, would want Tracer’s help with a mission only she could help her with. Now, this is where my little story falls apart, as I have absolutely no idea what mission that would be. What could Widowmaker be after that she could only get with Tracer’s help? Not really important. I’m not really planning on writing a fanfic or anything, but…this is how they always start.

In terms of a mission, it would obviously have to be something she doesn’t want the rest of Talon to know about because it’s either personal or traitorous. Otherwise I doubt they wouldn’t already have operatives at Talon capable of getting the job done.

Well, yeah. But, considering Tracer’s abilities with the technology is equipped with, it could be related to that. Maybe a separate faction, from both Overwatch and Talon has developed, or is developing some tech, either based off of what Winston helped stabilize Tracer’s condition with or something similar. So the only way they can enter whatever facility it’s in and get it out would require very specific skills and tech. Sombra has tech based on it, sure and she’s already traitorous, but I doubt Widow would want to work with her, again. She’d want to work with Tracer even less, but necessity and all that.

She could want to get inside overwatch hq, and tracer is the only one that could get her in

Game theory: Emily is a secret Talon agent.

no, just uninformed and used to blackmail tracer. Maybe she gets shot, but not fatal.

Nah, some other faction. Neither Overwatch or Talon. But, someone in that faction could be related to or working for Overwatch. Like, one of the scientist characters, Pharah, Mercy or other could have some lab or R&D facility where Widow wants to get in.

JoeyFerrsGame theory: Emily is a secret Talon agent.

I did find it odd that Emily knows about Tracer’s work and e.g.: Winston. We need a comic that explain how she got introduced to them. I mean, are Overwatch agents celebrities in their world? Do they get recognized? If so, then many probably actually KNOW where Tracer lives. But, isn’t that automatically a breach of security? Anyone with a grudge could go after her or her loved ones, at her home.

I have thought about Widow posssibly poisoning Emily, first, having the antidote on her person and dangling it over Tracer’s head, to coerce her. But, that’s too much. I’d want it to be even more subtle. Because, I think it is even more nerve-wrecking for Tracer that Emily is in the belief that she’s colleagues with Widowmaker and that she’s an ally, all the while, Widowmaker is essentially sending Tracer the message that she can easily get to her loved one and harm her if she wants too. Or that she could’ve done so, already, but didn’t, so Tracer automatically owes her.

fun fact, your short story was actually a premise for some widowtracerly fanfiction, featuring widow x tracer x emily.

Yes, some people actually ship all three of them together.

Well, that’s a bit overdoing it. Though, there could be some mission, with Widowmaker and Tracer, where Widow would actually get injured, suffer some head-trauma that would…I dunno…make her feel, again. It is clear from the Reflections short, where she is standing over Gerard’s grave, that despite what they’ve done to her, she actually remembers what she did. She just doesn’t have emotions. Although, it’s interesting that in those pre-match dialogues where Tracer asks her what she’s looking at, Widow responds with “An annoyance.” Now, that’s an emotion. And it’s cute that Tracer can, at least, make her feel annoyed. That’s some basis for a ship right there.

Well technically, Emily being at Watchpoint Gibraltar with Tracer, Mei and Winston in the OWL spray (Canon or not is still up in the air, however, it seems those 4 OWL sprays were most canon with lore so far) seemed odd to me. Say they are canon. Why bother bringing a “normie” there where she could possibly get in major trouble? I don’t think Tracer would endanger her like that, but I also think that it’s odd she is there with OW agents…

I am not saying she will be a hero…however, I am not going to a rule it out either though. I just think imo, that it’s odd she hangs out with them when her affiliation with them could get her killed IF she doesn’t know how to defend herself. Why bring a normal non “super human” there if it could be a possible target? (Reaper already was there so they know the location and Sombra had already hacked into the place a while ago according to her line on Watchpoint Gibraltar) It doesn’t add up.

So I am thinking…was Emily once a previous worker for OW as well?

Oh no not this again.

We can only speculate, but even considering OW agents are celebrities and Emily is in a relationship with one, it is still odd that she would be there with them at a place like that, unless, of course, she is or was affiliated with OW somehow.

i can use expand this into a fanfic if you want i used to write it for the game back when in year 1. Wont be too much time consuming i can visualise 2 chapter story.

I dont think tracer would be an important target to kill or blackmail. Shes like a foot soldier in overwatch, talons main prioritys would be the original strike team or the engineers/scientists.

Nah…I’d write one myself if I actually had any ideas for a cohesive and convincing plot. A good excuse, in other words, to write this one scene. It’s kind of bad, but that’s how all of my fanfics start out. I have 2-3 concrete scenes in mind that are either serious, fluff or have shock-value and I need to fit a whole story around them to have somewhere they could fit in. The actual plot ideas come later, almost as a filler, almost purely as an excuse, to have those scene I first had in mind in there. Just to get them out of my head and once I put them into writing, it’s like a valve that releases pressure. Therapeutic, in a way.

But, I’d actually need a good excuse for Widow to blackmail Tracer, but I haven’t really thought past that scene I gave as an example. I don’t know where they’d go and what place they’d have to infiltrate that Widow would need Tracer’s help with.

shrug

I could probably come up with something, but I’m not heavily invested in it. Besides, I’m working on other fanfics and have a lot more I still need to eventually get out of my system.

haha i get ya I actually already came up with a good enough story for not only your scenario but to make that scene lead to the entire conflict for tracer but its fine if you dont wanna, also lemme know where you post i will love to read!

It maybe a looong while, though. Still have a DBS fic to finish, onto RWBY from there. Darksiders, JLU, X-Men Evolution…etc.

Emily clearly hasn’t read enough comics. Mundanes exist as romantic interests for supers so the mundane can then later die tragically to further advance the supers personal story arc :stuck_out_tongue:

You do dbs fanfic? Nice dude! Tell me your username and where to find you I read em up for fun whenever I have time maybe already read yours.
