I haven’t even started playing the game, yet, when I saw the comic and I immediately thought “What’s to stop Widowmaker from setting her scope on Emily?”
I even imagined a scene where Tracer would come home, one day, with Emily excitedly waiting for her. Tracer would be e.g…: changing into her home clothes, while Emily would be…in the kitchen, cleaning, working on a personal computer or something, so they couldn’t see each other’s face. Emily would start telling Tracer how one of her colleagues from Overwatch showed up while she was out. Tracer, surprised, would ask who it was? And Emily, oblivious, would start telling her the physical description of Widowmaker, saying something like “Oh, it was a woman. Very exotic. Tall, purple skin. Very pretty.” Tracer would freeze and all color would drain from her face. “She said you two were going on an assignment, soon and that you should meet up to go over some details. She told me you should meet her at - and I quote “The spot where you lost twice in a row.” Kind of cryptic. But, I guess she didn’t really want to say anything too specific to me. You know, being professional and all. She seemed like a really serious person. And that accent? I’m kinda jealous.” giggle
And Widowmaker’s code for their meeting location is, of course, a reference to how Tracer failed to protect the life of Mondatta, losing him and losing to Widowmaker, in the process, at King’s Row.
Tracer would, of course, pretend like nothing’s wrong and they’re colleagues and everything, but she’d be both furious (at Widowmaker) and scared (for Emily).
Widowmaker, here, would want Tracer’s help with a mission only she could help her with. Now, this is where my little story falls apart, as I have absolutely no idea what mission that would be. What could Widowmaker be after that she could only get with Tracer’s help? Not really important. I’m not really planning on writing a fanfic or anything, but…this is how they always start.
