Widowmaker offensive voice line

I have been playing OW since day 1 and today for the first time I heard a voice line of Widowmaker that I had never heard before, She says “Comment une équipe peut-elle contenir autant d’imbéciles?” which means “How can a team have so many imbeciles?”.

It’s kind of offensive if you consider the fact that saying the same to your teammates would get you reported and as a french myself I’m not a huge fan of our only representation in the game being toxic.

Please remove it.

I’m not trying to be rude but ill probably sound rude.

If you get offended by hearing imbecile by a fictional chracter who is talking about the ingame characters, not the IRL player. Then i dont think the internet is for you.

I have not said that I was offended, I said the line was offensive, not the same, if you take in consideration what has been considered offensive in the past that had to change in OW or other games it’s definitely worth deleting it.

Or are there double standards?

ahh thats what that means lol. i think i like that voice line a bit more now

She’s literally an assassin, she murders innocent people constantly, and the trait you’re worried about reflecting poorly on the French is she isn’t more polite while she does it?

Offense is taken, not given. Someone has to be offended for it to be offensive. If no-one gets offended, it’s not offensive.

But in the context of overwatch and her character, its not offensive. That would be like reading a book where a bully calls someone the R word and getting upset over that. Its a work of fiction not real life.

Its not offensive, idk why anyone would feel the need to even be slightly bothered by it considering a fictional character says it.

It’s about consistency with the previous changes they made across their games.

Even just recently they changed some quests in WoW because people were upset.

I speak French and I like that line! Sadly I suck at Widow.

Bro, hate to start it, but you sound exactly like my typical coworkers irl that were from France, that’s something I will never understand as a Quebecer.

Why the hell do you guys get so offended by things that are LITERALLY not offensive and actually character-lore oriented.

Mesmerising…

But where do you draw the line, no matter where they draw the line people will get upset, however as long as its not done in a malicious way that effects people irl then why does it matter?

Something I will never understand is people who generalize and refuse to read my previous posts before posting something ignorant.

I have considered the irony of the game having baked-in lines that can get you reported for saying them in chat.

Counterpoint, the Pokemon TCG mobile game has a variant of “ggez” as one of its pre-filled post-match options. A game designed for a target demo of 7 year olds has more mature chat features than Overwatch.
