Currently on live in competitive, Widowmaker’s average winrate is 22nd out of 29 heroes.
Her winrate in Bronze is 27 out of 29 and her win rate in Grand Master is 13 out of 29 and Master is 17 out of 29.
Widow turns into a different hero too, when you play on LAN, where ping latency is as low as 1ms. So she has an innate advantage in OWL that will NEVER EVER see live play.
Before anyone starts “but Widow is strong” think how often people scream toxicly at a Widow on their own team for “throwing the game” or just outright HATE having her on their team. That isn’t what happens to strong heroes, but weak ones.
Widowmaker used to be more consistent, because her body shots meant more, while still not killing. This change should be reverted, and relower her headshot multiplier since that was upped along with the lowering of body shot damage. This would also fix the fact that her zero charge shot literally does less damage than a single SMG shot.
I’ve heard a lot of people complain about Widow on their team. And it always comes back to the same thing. Even if you’re good with Widow, she’s inconsistent. Some games you go on a headshot hit streak (meanwhile still blaming you if your team loses, people suck), and other games it seems you just narrowly miss every headshot and end up with like 5 headshots at the end of the game.
For a hero so easily countered, and hated to have on a player’s team, and is literally garbage tier in lower ranks, and only “meh” in higher ranks in terms of win rate she needs something to make her MORE CONSISTENT.
If not the revert on her body shot/headshot which IS THE BIGGEST CULPRIT then she needs something else. Like her mine being more useful as a damage tool, not being cleansed by health packs, or making her SMG a better defensive tool.
I’d argue the other way around. Other heroes need to be less consistent. There’s way too much in this game that’s unavoidable/permanently present, whether it’s about damage, healing, whatever. Part of the reason why GOATS is so boring to many people is because everything is so consistent in it. So many possible variables just don’t play any role in that comp.
This game is slowly becoming as interactive as a card game (nothing against card games though, but it doesn’t work for a hero shooter).
I mean that’s also an option, but would require changes to most the cast, in ways that would alter their character a lot. Rein swings that miss more often? I don’t see how that’d work.
People on the forums will never understand heroes with ULTs that do nothing need a way to make up for not being able to press Q and kill 3 people.
The easiest way to win is by press Q in a combo in Overwatch. But If you win by actually shooting stuff then it is OP for some reason.
Even if you are the worst win rate hero in the game.
Just give widow an Auto Aim ULT that lets her lock on or pull out a hyper cannon that delete people when she presses Q and people will be happy with with that for some reason
Consistency doesn’t mean a buff in power level, so I guess that means you’re a troll since you can’t even respond to the post I made. It means a shift to make her more even. Which would be achieved if her winrate is more balanced. Pickrate is important to be balanced, but you also have to factor in popularity of a character for other reasons. Hitscan are perceived as overpowered at high end play, even if winrate doesn’t back that, that perception can cause inflated pick rates. Her and McCree are the two most picked in Diamond. Yet winrates on both are pretty bad.
Heroes don’t NEED to be good across all ranks. We don’t need another Moth Meta situation where Mercy was picked 100% of the time across all ranks.
That’s why Reaper will never get a proper buff: because making him good in high ranks will make him busted in lower ones. If you buff Widow for lower ranks she’ll be busted in higher ones.
That would only be true if there was not such a change you could make to make her more consistent. This includes with the advantages she gets playing on LAN, which is only possible in OWL.
So you’re saying out of an infinite number of possible changes to Widow none would make her more consistent. Despite me giving 3 examples of ways to achieve that. Sorry if I don’t believe you at all.
Moving the damage back to bodyshot and relowering the headshot multiplier, as she was initially designed, alone fixes the inconsistency while still maintaining her one shot one kill persona.
Widowmaker was designed to be a high risk high payoff type character.
Making a character that runs on high risk into something consistent, is what happened with many characters in Street Fighter 5, which made the game INCREDIBLY BORING after the first couple months.
Yep. And her initial design had more damage in the body, with a lower headshot multiplier. She’s always been far less consistent since they changed that ratio to be even more hit or miss.
Theres a very strong argument to be made that she is OP and does not belong in this game. I don’t agree but it’s valid. I think she’s fine, really high skill cap, easily countered. Leave her alone.
You’ll have to explain what you mean by “consistency”. Widow is plenty consistent in high ranks and OWL where people can aim. She’s less consistent in lower ranks where people can’t aim, and this goes for a few other hit scan heroes as well.
If you moved Widow’s bodyshot back to 150 she would be the best DPS in the game, bar none. There’s a reason it got changed.
If her bodyshot goes back to the 150, and the headshot multiplier is reduced back to what it was, along with all the other changes she got not touched, which were a lot such as her scoping speed which was a huge hit to her already then what would change?
Pro’s are basically unchanged, which already get an advantage in OWL of being on 1ms ping servers, and everyone else gets to be more consistent gameplay with her.
