Widowmaker needs a nerf

Widowmaker is seriously overpowered.
When you are playing a 6v6 it doesn’t matter how good you are with a certain character because a Widowmaker of equal skill will always be better. Alone the fact that a skilled Widowmaker can take down almost an entire team on it’s own is reason enough that she gets picked every single round no matter the situation.

In a game like Overwatch no character should be able to strike you down with a single shot without you not being able to counter her properly with most characters. It’s simply not fair, that a soldier (or almost anyone else) can’t down her from distance as fast a she can down you. While she shoots with an extremely high accuracy and the power to kill you in an instance you are forced to fire weak bullets with spread and in some cases travel time. Not to mention that she doesn’t risk a thing while doing so.

Well if she can’t be beaten from distance, then the obvious thing to do should be to counter her with a close range flank hero like Tracer or Genji. But that doesn’t work either because a good enough Widow will be able to land her shots even from close range. Besides, her grappling hook allows for a quick escape including the potential for additional headshots mid air. But most of the time flankers don’t even make it this far.

So in my opinion Widowmaker really needs a nerf. Something like bullets that, while she is scoped in, scale up in damage (from low to high) the further they travel and a minor decrease in health so that flank heroes are more effective. Though the issue with getting there in the first place would still exist.

That would force me to play a certain character so that I could enjoy a “balanced” game. There’s gotta be a better solution.

the game is about switching, so… you know… that’s kinda the point of the game.

To bad there is only Reinhard and Orisa is kinda stationary. It works sometimes but still there is a lot of opportunity for widow to headshot

Don’t get me wrong, I’m tilted too whenever I get one-shot by a really good Widow from really far away. But that’s kinda her purpose, she’s a sniper.

She has plenty of counters as well, barriers and shields block her shots, other snipers, Winston/Dva eat her for breakfast, and good Genji players can counter her long-range shots with deflect. Plus shes practically dead if any hero gets in close-range.

I try to be really aware of my surroundings when I know the enemy team has a sniper or you hear widowmaker’s ult. There are ways to work around a good enemy Widow, my favorite being focusing them as Winston and making their life a living hell until they switch.

There’s winston and D’va, if your team or you don’t want to cooperate that’s your problem. Everyone just wants to play dps and enjoy getting rekt apparently

Don’t cry nerf just because 1 of the 6 people on your team can’t switch to dive the widow

I understand the frustration. Getting instant killed by Widow is annoying as hec, but the skill required to play her is huge.

In my experience, Widow is pretty useless if she misses most of her shots. Likewise, if she is dominating, she has many counters, we just have to work as a team.

Are we playing the same game?

Widow does have the oneshot potential, thought it is hard to pull off and widow is a strong contender in the small contest of having the most counter in the game.

Have you tried?? Sorry but if you play Tracer and you get owned by a Widow at close range it is all on you not her.

If the game was really about switching, Genji and Tracer wouldn’t be so dominant and ult charge would be kept between each hero.

I mean, to the thread itself, I hate instant kills. They shouldn’t exist outside of ultimates. Hanzo? Bull. Widow? Bull. Doomfist? Bull. Reinhardt? Bull. They make for frustrating characters and severely limit the possibilities of the game. The most damage a single attack should do (outside of damage boost!) is 150 per target upon headshots. Rework characters that require instant kills to function (and ergo change Reinhardt’s charge, too, even if he doesn’t ‘require it to function’.

Switching to counter another player who is shutting you or your team down is a core concept in overwatch. It is the solution, the game is entirely balanced around rock paper scissors, sorry. You cannot be your favourite hero and always win because someone selected your hero’s weakness. If its any consolation, when you are forced to counter widowmaker and start shutting her down (winston is hilariously fun for this) her entire team will get very, VERY angry at them if they don’t switch off widowmaker.

A Widowmaker of equal skill being always always better? Not unless you’re talking about high ranks or something.

One day at Chick-fil-A

Roadhog walked into his favourite place to eat. The service, the clean atmosphere and no piggies on the menu is what he loves. While waiting for his food, they call his name saying his order is ready. He aims his hook at his trey to get his food, accidentally killing a worker in the process. He then tries again and gets his food. He then notices a woman hook her way to the front of the line and is amazed.

Roadhog- Hey, I have a hook too! Yours is cool :slight_smile: What is your name?

???- My name is Widowmaker. I like your hook as well :0

Roadhog- Well hello, Widowmaker! I am Roadhog. I see you got a chicken sandwich too! You have a man or nah

Widowmaker- I used to, but I killed him

Roadhog- Well, that’s kind of cool. Would you like to sit down and eat with me?

Widow hooks her way to the seat across from him

Roadhog- Omg you are so cool

Widowmaker- I’m not trying to get ahead of ourselves, but if we had kids I could be called Hogmaker

Honest question: are you ever asking for a Widowmaker on your team before the game starts?

The answer is probably no. You only complain about Widowmaker in the context of her both being a skilled player and on the other team. Think of the other perspectives.

I see your problem: You think that a Widowmaker of equal skill dominates you regardless of what hero you play, but the reality is that the Widowmaker you’re talking about is way more skilled than you. If you were equally skilled with any of her counters, you wouldn’t have a very hard time dealing with her.

One dive hero doesn’t counter a Widow who has supports on their team who aren’t completely oblivious.
