Widowmaker Is just game-breaking

In the pro scene and even average play, a match with a widow is often decided by their performance.

You will either go up against a Widow who’s insanely good and manages to single-handedly dismantle your team in a matter of seconds, or you face a widow that doesn’t aim right and is easy to jump.

A widowmaker is so pivotal to the outcome of any game that she fundamentally breaks the formula.

There’s a reason the sniper from tf2 is unable to charge his shots all the way in less than 1-2 seconds. It’s specifically so he can’t end up getting a 3k so easily every time he’s around.

If you’re going to give a hero the ability to one shot they need to work harder for it.

Anyone can aim and click. She needs a larger charge time to balance her potential out.

Widowmaker is perfectly balanced. Having a hero that wins or loses games based on performance should be a staple. She has many counters which makes her fair for the 6 enemy players too.

So you’re saying a single character deciding the outcome of a matched is balanced?

She doesn’t. Unless you let her. Or she is severly skilled she outskills the whole lobby and deserves to win anyway.

Agreed. I generally enjoy playing snipers in any FPS but Widowmaker feels unrewarding of skill. It’s like you said “anyone can point in click” while in other shooters (even excluding COD/BF) there’s timing/distance drop/sway to account for at the very least. The most similar sniper I can compare Widowmaker to is the pulse rifle from Star Wars Battlefront which required almost 5 seconds of charge up, had a 10-15 second recharge but the payoff was a bodyshot was a kill. Or the cycle rifle which required no charge, could pierce shields but required a headshot to kill (would deal 99 damage on a bodyshot) but had a 10-15 second cooldown between each shot.

The point being, you can have a powerful “low skill” sniper but they have to have some form of tradeoff. Being able to pop off kill after kill with a 2 second reload is pretty crazy.

Widowmaker only feels op when she gets healing. So when she gets pocketed, our best hope is a Reinhardt barrier… we all know how that goes

I feel like the less we see Mercy, the less we will see Widowmaker.

Im okay with her right now since i can sneak up to her and freeze her to death.

If you are going to base your win/loss on one player then you might as well lose.

Personally, I absolutely hate having snipers in this game. There is no reason there should be a main weapon in the game that can one-shot people. Abilities I can get because you have to land those, and they take time to come off cooldown. But having a primary weapon just able to delete someone the moment they step out of cover to move somewhere else to get to the point is not fun at all. Watching videos from the pro scene, it all boils down to who has the best Widow on their team and can delete the enemy first.

I could be wrong, but this just sounds like people who are salty that no one else on their team is trying to counter the Widowmaker for them, or that they haven’t yet learned how to counterplay the Widowmaker themselves.

The problem with her is that she decide the game just by her performance. If she lands the important headshots you lose if not you win.

Agreed :heart_eyes::sparkling_heart:

There has to be 5 other players doing their jobs to make space for her, pull/pressure the enemy into her sightlines, and heal her.

So yes, with a highly skilled, well coordinated team, at 0 ping LAN, and in the right hands she is OP.

It’s almost like you are just simply are refusing to give any other professionals some credit.

I would agree… I mean, ffs, go D.va and dive her… or Pharah or any number of other characters capable of reaching her and taking her out… not the least of which is Widow herself…

Not to mention, in latest LAN patch for World Cup she has a total playtime of 10:59:08 and a winrate of only 49.23%

I didn’t know that losing a majority of the time was OP.

How to win over a good widow:
Stay behind cover or your main tank, get a flanking tank like Dva and Winston to jump on Widow. She is now unable to get any picks. If you’re walking out into the open not paying attention you deserve to get picked.

oh boy, another one of these threads

  1. “average play” doesn’t have the team coordination that pro play has + pros play on LAN so no latency and such, which benefit Widow.
  2. pros are all GMs and Top500s,they are SUPPOSED TO BE good at aiming.
  3. if aiming is so easy then why don’t you all play Widow yourselves or even McCree and get rid of the enemy Widow easily??
  4. it’s really hard to be consistent with Widow. sometimes you’re good, sometimes you’re not
  5. she has so many counters for god’s sake. barriers make her job harder, flankers exist,so does Winston

Shouldn’t be. Do you know how hard is to carry games as Genji, Mccree or a Doomfist for example? you need at least 5 times the effort to do so but it’s a team game right? so that is why they can’t but what about her?

she can’t “carry” on her own without a good team :man_shrugging:

Yeah? then why Carpe sometimes manage to erase half of the enemy team on his own before dying with all his team already dead? I wish i could see him try and do that as Mccree or Genji which are both characters who need teamplay to succeed.
