Cause if its gold, then even Battle Mercy can counter widow.
Yesterday won a match against somewhat well known gm widow player as Torbjorn. Had 4:0 score vs her, it doesnt mean that Torb counters Widow even in slightest.
The higher you get, then the better Widows you face generally. Never had a Widow control a game while below Plat, but I’ve come across it sometimes in high-Plat/low-Diamond, and if you watch even higher ranked gameplay it isn’t a terribly rare occurrence.
Exactly this. I used to not have a problem with widow back in diamond, but when I climbed to 3900 it has gotten awful. Before the double shield meta, I would see a widow nearly every game and one in every 4 shots is a HS from them. Not even kidding.
Widow became meta because of the 4 second reduction on her grappling hook. When it was down to 8 seconds, people started to realize that if you play her right then you could just constantly be repositioning and avoid getting dived. Basically, she was meta because people realized she provided a lot more value than Genji.
Rank matter, because Widow is hero with high ceiling. If you pick up her, and don’t have good aim, you will do basically nothing. But if you can land your shots, she is easily the strongest dps in entire game, escpecially on maps with long sightlines. And no, dive does not counter her. Counter means you can just kill hero on your own and don’t leave fight for too long. Dive tanks can jump on her… sometimes. You know, map can ruin it for them, because they had to jump big distance, where widow can still shot, because she is in position to do it. One D.Va or Winston should not kill Widow with brain, because she is not close enough. And if your D.Va can just jump on Widow, your team is not doing any pressure. But okay, let’s assume both - D.Va and Widow are doing 1vs1, meaning they have not any help of their team. Widow can land a hs if D.Va is not using Matrix when she flies on her, leaving her only 300hp. 300hp with huge hitbox, vs 200 hp with small. I would say Widow has the advantage. If she is using it, Widow will grapple away and then shot. Probably she is also somewhere close to mega healthpack, because why not. So she can jump on it.
If we are taking support from team, Widow has much easier time coordinating with supports, than D.Va with dive tanks. Why? Because supports are already in the backline with Widow anyway. They are waiting for those dive tanks. Ana can heal and sleep, Zen can orb Widow to help her survive, Mercy heal, Brigitte do everything - boop, stun, heal, Lucio boop and speed away… Basically you need your own sniper to consistently kill enemy Widow, because it’s the only way to bypass any support from enemy team, and you are not leaving fight for too long, just to deal with one hero. And remember, if D.Va jumps on Widow, on frontline is still 5vs5, so it’s not counter. It’s just draw.
You ignore all the downtime it takes for a main tank to relocate,
You forget that Widow gets helped by her team,
You just consider the cooldowns and forget that Widow has a weapon
You forget the other 5 enemies
And that dive heroes aren’t META
If you dive a widow she is forced to relocate but then you’re stuck in their backline until you get your cooldown back, and on top of that widow and her entire team are now free to delete you.
Not to mention on some maps like gibraltar or junkertown she can sit so far away no cooldown can even reach her in the first place (perhaps hamster).
Have we already forgotten that Widow overtook Genji in dive, even though its “supposedly” her worst meta? On top of that double sniper overtook dive shortly after Brig’s release and the Hanzo rework. Its like this community has short term memory.
Have we forgotten the Mercy rework pushed Genji out of dive and brought Widow in, because Widow is an easy target to Rez as well as the only hitscan that didn’t need to use an ult to kill a healer? On top of that, double sniper wasn’t because of Widow. It was because of Brig, Hanzo and Mercy. And ounce the Dragons/Damage Boost was removed, Double Sniper fell away.
It’s like this community has some serious short term memory. Stop blaming Widow for things that only happened because of the Mercy rework
