Why is it that whenever someone picks Widowmaker there’s an unseen eyeroll by the entire team. I don’t get it? They’ll usually ask the Widow to pick someone else and I’m not entirely sure why she gets so much hate.
Can someone clarify for me? Aside from when someone sucks at aiming, but more often than not the Widow is fairly decent so whats the problem?
The real question is why do so many people think they’re good at widow when they barely pull 10 kills in a game? I’ve played with good widows and have added a few but most widow players aren’t that good
Because it’s not a “more often than not” sort of thing. You will rarely have a good widow on your team, because if the widow is good theyr’e carying a game.
They are projecting their own lack of skill on Widow onto you. Because if they cannot hit the broadside of a barn, surely you cannot. And those same people always complain about their own Widow, but THEIR Widow is a god, and half the time it is literally the same Widow. That awkward moment when they have to eat a a slice of humble pie. We got into a game and someone was like, “their Widow sucks, they only land bodyshots” only for us to get destroyed by them. Usually I am the Widow, but it was funny to see it from another perspective.
The general steryotype that the player isn’t decent with Widow and will spend most of their time in the backline not dying, but not playing the objective or getting picks. I have had that happen 100’s of times in QP. Personally, I’ll always give the Widow a few minutes of game time to justify the pick. Especially since I started playing Hammond, a character who people also assume is just a useless slot.
Snipers in every game get a bad rep because everyone and their grandmother think they’re gods when they play them. Unfortunately, it’s the same case with Widowmaker, you’ll more often than not see a bad one over a good one.
Also, a mediocre Widowmaker isn’t as good as someone who is mediocre on any other DPS hero for the simple fact that her ultimate is pretty garbage. A bad/mediocre Soldier/Reaper/Mei/Junkrat/Sombra/Hanzo/etc. eventually get their ultimate which is sometimes enough to win a game/push.
This isn’t always true, if widow can’t kill pharah once with out dva helping her is that my lack of skill? No it’s obviously the widows lack of skill, however people will be blind to realize when they have a good widow
Huh? Soldier, Reaper, and Hanzo all have quite terrible ultimates. In the case of Soldier and Reaper, they can hurt you more than help you. Hanzo’s is okay as just a fire and forget if you do not have grav to combo it; however, very rarely is that a game changer unless placed properly which I doubt bad Hanzo are doing very often.
for me it’s when someone chooses widow when we need a healer, since i will take the tank role

Widow mains mainly get hate because a Widow pick is hit or miss (no pun intended 
) either the Widow is good and gets kills or is bad and misses every shot. We as humans tend to remember bad experiences more then the good ones so we remember the bad Widow’s more then the good ones more so we think “oh god Widow I bet he/she is bad at this hero” because of those bad experiences.

I am on console, so the dynamic is a bit different. Widow is one of the worst heroes on console and Pharah is one of the best. They buffed her in the match-up too. So I cannot entirely relate because Pharah are hyper aggressive on console which is even worse for the Widow. Yet, I still see console players reflect the PC attitude which is definitely strange. I can hit her, but, you know, she is going to cut angles and heal back up. It DOES require other people to adjust. It is like, if I can carry the game and win the duel with their Widow, I am a good Widow even if I cannot address Pharah, you know? Conversely, a Widow that is great at shutting down Pharah, but largely ignores the game as a whole is going to have less impact.
I, for one, always ask if someone else wants to take hit-scan duty and nobody does. They are willing to moan about it until I shift the burden. All of a sudden I am doing a pretty okay job.

Yes this is true so in a way it baffles me why people continue to pick widow/Ana on console when widow can’t get more than 10 kills and Ana is getting outhealed by zen(that happens so many times to me it’s not funny) I get it people want to play fun heroes but in competitive you need to play as a team and take one for the team sometimes, if that means you need a dva over widow as a third DPS then so be it.
So basically it’s just a bunch of bad snipers that has given Widowmaker a bad rap. Damn, that’s unfortunate.
I would’ve liked to try her but unfortunately I’m not a good enough shot to try her and we’re in a stage in the game where everyone will expect you to be a god with her.
I genuinely believe that most of the people that pretend Widow does nothing have absolutely no idea of what she is contributing. You say they are not landing their shots. I have been accused of that with a 66% accuracy and 20 headshots. I have been accused of leaving the team at a 5 v 6 while I had gold damage (something Widow should NOT have) and my duo buddy Zen had silver. Like… People say what they want to say. I get it literally all the time despite having the highest performance. You THINK she is doing nothing unless you see the one thing everyone can see, the kill feed. But you can do so much as Widow without chaining kills. Some of the easiest plays I got were triples or quads that are set up BY MY TEAM, and they praise me when THEY did the heavy lifting. I get a key pick that starts a snowball. Nothing but complaints. It is crazy, fam.
The way I judge how someone performs in a match is checking the kill feed every few seconds and watching people’s decisions while respawing
Exactly, and that explains why you feel the way you feel. You are not alone. Almost everybody does it. It is not even vaguely accurate, however. I wish they would add a scoreboard, that would be the life. Instead of listing of my stats to get people to shut it, they would just naturally bow down.
