No cooldowns needed, no ults needed, no mechanical skill or risk needed. Tank mains dream of such power to command space- by merely being visible from 100M away (with 4-5 allies between you and threats). Beta Bastion with 1K Sentry Barrier is less challenging/frustrating for anyone to counter.
Widow needs a rework of some kind. Being balanced on paper doesn’t make hide-n-seek fun for the other 40-something. That’s why other reworks have happened.
You can count on them STILL being unwilling to change her even if she were to reach a >90% ban rate. I think Alec(?) said something along the lines of looking at changes to oft-banned heroes, but we all know Widow is exempt, otherwise she wouldn’t still be like this after years.
I really feel like 1-shot snipers just don’t belong in a hero shooter like this.
The game is all about the big 5v5 team fights, while Widow is all about getting picks. If Widow does well, the big team fights the game is all about end before they even start. All from a range that the vast majority of the cast can not even meaningfully interact with her.
She feels like she is a holdover from when nearly every shooter was Counter-Strike or Call of Duty and has her 1-shot more for historic reasons instead of an actually considered design choice. Games like Valorant are built from the ground up around 1-shots and the exceptionally low TTK. A sniper there can still be 1-tapped by a myriad of other weapons depending on their armor choice. Here, Ashe has to hit 5 consecutive headshots (2.6 seconds of perfect aim) at 50m, while Widow’s falloff doesn’t even start until 50m.
thats why in sniper maps she will be avoided by most players except widow players. we are here to play ow and would like to use the whole map, not just 20% of it
Since they nerfed her scope hitbox she’s been way more manageable. Before she was difficult to deal with even in low diamond but now it feels like I can actually reasonably duel her and she has a chance to miss the shot.
plat upwards she starts to be a problem. does not mean she wins the game but the whole flow of the match is changed cause some lady is standing a bajilion miles away where no one can touch her without burning cooldowns or skipping a fight to flank.all while contesting 80% of the map
granted i havent played comp for a while so her bullet size nerf mightve helped. seems like a bandaid solution tho, the problem is still there she just less consistent, still uncontested,still one shots, still controls 80% of the map
