Why would you say "support diff" during the game?

Even when it looks like tank diff…

Imma he real, it’s probably a support diff. There’s usually a reason the tank is losing the tank duel lol

Yeah and majority of the time it’s bad positioning. You can’t outheal poor positioning and bad decision making.

Same can be said for any role. If the tank isn’t doing their job then there’s no space and your supports are just endlessly healing a useless player who is doing nothing with it.

If your DPS aren’t getting any kills then eventually the enemy team is going to out-damage your healing and kill them. Healing useless people doesn’t make them play better, doesn’t fix their aim, doesn’t fix their game sense, it just delays their inevitable death.

“support diff” is what dps players say when their repeated deaths nowhere near heals are the reason for their poor offensive numbers and the loss of the game.

I find a lot of tanks have no awareness of where their supports are.

Take a map like rialto. Almost every game the tank will head down over the bridge on defence on 1st and if the supports follow they die so it is basically the tank leaving LoS and then staying out of LoS until they die.

Same on Eichenwald - tank heads down down the hill in the middle of the fight instead of fighting the choke, dies, blames supports.

What are you talking about?

I’ve never seen a Tank on Rialto defence who would cross the bridge without the backing of his team - that would equal suicide. But playing around the left and right alcove + behind the payload is a legit strategy!

On Eichenwald you are supposed to play down the hill. You can have snipers from the ramparts, you have the wall on the right, the room to the left and you generally play around that very corner.

It’s an overall easy point to defend. If you gonna stand in the portcullis you will be at a severe disadvantage because of lack of LoS of the enemy. It’s easy for Defenders to get jumped there and dominated, because the enemy can flank them from the left, from behind (going down the tunnel and stairs) or from above. At that point its way better to fall back closer to the bridge/castle

Nah supports have such a disproportionate impact to a game compared to the other roles that it’s usually their fault that the team lost.

You misunderstand - tanks in bronze/silver/gold at least go under the arch, hang a right, and go down the steep hill towards spawn and then get 5 players ganging up on them with no real hope to save them. I stand at the bridge spamming for them to come back but usually they stubbornly stay there until it’s too late and they die as they try to get back.

Maybe I do misunderstand, I’m not sure. Would have to point stuff on the map to be absolutely certain we are talking about the same thing.

This is by no means a general rule but it’s more often true than not that corners favor the Defence side meanwhile narrow passages favor the Attackers side.

Like for example on Gibraltar the hardest part for the Attackers is easily the last corner of the map and you can defend that spot forever if you play it right.
But once the Attackers made that corner stopping them is nearly impossible.

As soon as the Attackers pass the Main Gate you should be trying to protect the corner that starts just where the Roof starts on this image - opposite the Ruins.
The reason is because in this location you can have DPS shooting from the high-ground and also Supports hidden behind a corner to safely heal everyone. You also can see any potential flankers trying to move both from the Ruins and the side Stairs.
I often found this to be one of the 2 best spots to Defend on this map (the 2nd ofc being the main corner in the castle).

If you would try to protect the choke at the archway, underneath the Rampart, not only would there be limited places to jump behind cover and regenerate but you would also lose LoS with enemy DPS, who might try and flank/sandwich you using either the Rampart, the Stairs/Room or the Cellar.
At this point I would more likely fall back to the Bridge and the 1st Defenders Spawn Room.

Of course the Bridge itself is an ok place to defend (although a bit too much open space for my taste) but there really is no need to give the enemy so much ground, if that’s what you are suggesting. It’s a good tactic to try and hold for as long as possible the corner between the Roof and the Passage, even if only to deplete enemy resources and ults.

That’s my view on the matter.

People are insecure and childish and looking to blame anything but themselves. So they lash out and insult someone. Just ignore them or even block them.
