She should have been reworked a long time ago. There are various characters who would have gotten reworked or gutted if they were nearly as oppressive as Widow. Ashe sort of messed her requiring 2 shots up and I blame the devs who main her for letting their bias influence balance.

to answer? because the community has kicked and screamed about it for 4 years. they came to a shooter and complained about shooter mechanics, so now they are getting rid of shooter mechanics because of that

because she’s the single most overbearing hero in the game’s history? Having a one-shot on the vast majority of the game’s cast from anywhere on the map even as a skill shot is still broken af. I’m shocked it took them this long to do the bare minimum and give her fall off. Her SMG is better for when she gets dived because they gave her more ammo, but her sniping will be slightly worse, which is fine.

overwatch has never been a real shooter.
cover means 0 in this game because of the handholding in shields
aim means little to nothing in this game because of the reliance on team synergies and cooldowns
there is no single player carry potential
there are no gun archetypes
there are no angles to check or worry about
overwatch is a moba disguised as a shooter.

OW is a team game, and early picks generally win teamfights.
If you get sniped in CoD during TDM, you just respawn immediately. Widow is one of the few heroes in OW who can just win games on her own if you ‘pop off’.
One-shot mechanics in a team game aren’t fun and should never exist - this includes Doomfist punch and stray Hanzo arrows.

And in real life:
- The bullets are projectiles
- And also are affected by gravity and wind
- The sniper themselves need to hunker down and remain completely still
- Engage from much further away
- Have extremely low rates of fire in order to actually land shots with precision
Like, surely you’re not actually trying to compare real life to a video game, right?

man, halo, unreal tournament, csgo, and valorant all disagree very heavily. most of them are much more successful than OW, and do indeed have one shots. not just from snipers, but from other guns such as ars as well.

Those games do not have hitscan one shots, they are projectiles, with falloff.

This isn’t any other game, this is overwatch and Overwatch isn’t a pure shooter, some characters don’t even have guns. This game was designed around team play and objectives, Widowmaker goes against both of those principles due to her negating team-play with her ohks, not having to work around/with her team too much due to her Ohks, and having little point presence. Her kit allowing her OHKs to happen so often with a hitscan rifle without any falloff was a horrible idea.
The ohk may have worked as an ult and if they changed her to require 2 shots before Ashe’s release. Widow was a horribly designed hero for this game.
