He can kill supports faster. Can get nearly 3 times the hp she has which allows him to deal with stuns much better. His cooldowns allow him to stay agressive in teamfights much longer. This just feels like poor balancing. She does nothing better than him other than a smaller hitbox but again all his shields more than make up for it.
Some of the formerly highest rated tracer players still pick her occasionally on stream, and I’ve noticed that they only stay on her when the enemy team doesn’t look at them. That’s pretty much the condition to pick her over DF right now - if the enemy isn’t actively trying to shut you down and ignores you.
As far as my personal experience, the only time I would ever want to pick tracer over doomfist is if I just don’t know how to play doomfist in a certain situation. For example, I for the life of me can not play doomfist on attack into blizzard world A. I can force tracer to work, though.
I will admit, I don’t think the two are balanced around eachother very well. In a 1v1, sure, they’re fine and it’s a good matchup. But in a team game when comparing the two against eachother in terms of who’s better, I find that his high health, low TTK, vertical mobility, newly lowered cooldowns and shields don’t properly fit with his lack of sustained midrange damage or big hitbox quite the same way tracer’s instant evasiveness and somewhat high burst damage fits with her low health and lack of vertical mobility (even her horizontal mobility is rather low - a sprinting soldier can cover roughly the same amount of distance over time.).
The only reason would be that she is more fun to play.
I play Tracer occasionally just to maintain my Tracer tracking in case she ever becomes a legitimate hero again. That’s literally the only reason. Outside of that I stick to Doomfist.
She’s more fun to play. Pew Pew Pew!
Doomfist’s shield gain is ridiculous, though. It was needed when he was a new hero, but people have gotten so good at playing him now, even at lower levels, that the shield just makes him unkillable at times.
As Tracer once said, “Don’t be Daft!”
if you are kabaji and want to take twice as long to do a unranked to gm challenge. 12hrs for tracer 6 hrs for doomfist.
Not to mention, he started it with almost no knowledge of how to play doomfist at all. Just relied on his existing skills to stumble his way all the way up to the top
Because she’s fun and I know/am safe with playing her compared to doom.
Tracer currently has a more honest playstyle, meaning she can’t exploit Overwatch’s gameplay design like Doomfist can. She’s much more fun IMO, because she has a high learning curve that can still see great results if pushed to the limits (at least in the games I play).
In fact I think she is so fun (maybe even more than before due to the above reasons), that I created this recently:
Tracer has always been an extremely honest hero. Every aspect of her kit is purely skill-based and nothing comes easy for her.
She has no CC of any kind. She has no ability to hinder her enemy’s capability to control their character. She has no cheap free win button like storm arrows, flashbang, FtH, etc…
Problem is, she’s the last honest cop in an otherwise corrupt department.
This coming from someone who’s loved playing as Tracer since Day 1: I would argue that in the old days, she was OP because a lot of heroes just couldn’t do anything against her because mobility was king and Tracer’s in particular was so difficult to harness.
From a mechanics point of view, yes she is more “pure FPS” than a lot of other heroes, yes even at launch, but it didn’t stop her from running circles around her competition and that’s mainly because fewer heroes were properly equipped to handle her.
Not sure honestly. That was a long time ago and I don’t have access to stats from back then, however I’m open to the possibility that she was OP at that time – but at higher ranks only most likely. Tracer generally never experienced a positive winrate beneath diamond from what I recall.
I remember myself and alot of other Tracers, including some in GM (I was in low diamond), were already discussing back then (in Season 4 or so) whether Tracer was underpowered, as she had a very hard time against Ana in her original form: Ana only needed to land a single shot and then the grenade to finish Tracer.
Those were fun times, and it felt fair on both sides - and I talk as as much an Ana main as a Tracer main, which I was back then.
Maybe it would have been possible to deal with Tracer in more fair ways than creating Moira and Brigitte.
Because she’s not as strong in as many situations. It’s pretty simple and it won’t be like that forever…next
