I’m hearing more and more I watch OWL the commentators saying a certain player lets themself die… I don’t see how that would ever be beneficial… definitely when it’s a tank doing it. Why would a person allow a death ? To die the same time as someone important that just died to spawn the same time? Couldn’t be me.

If the fight is lost and your team is dead you just want to respawn as quickly as possible instead of wasting several or so seconds so you are ready to start the next team fight with the rest of your team.

- To spawn with your team again and faster
- Deny ult charge for the enemy
- Reset a hero like Dva with the mech
That are the most use cases.

I still remember back in the days when some of the teams went all off the map after losing 1 player.
Stuff like this is why this game was never good as an esport.

These 2 pretty much nailed it

Except if it’s in OT right ? Then even if it’s just you , you wanna hold point and not just die off. ??
Faster time back with team from spawn is most of it, or potentially a need to swap to counter. Its to prevent staggering or delays in regrouping for a win.

I don’t get the deny ult charge. If you just die aren’t you essentially feeding them a bit? Not denying it? Also reset a dva? Like so baby dva let’s herself die just to get back in mech sooner? That don’t make no sense either ….
I think professional players know when a cause is lost… or at least they should… Like playing billiards with someone, if they have the shot and you know they can make it… kinda just wasting time to make them do it.

Jumping off cliffs denies ult charge

The dont get ult charge from you getting killed. They get ult charge from damaging you. If you throw yourself of a cliff they get nothing from it.
A normal strategy is to kill the enemy team and let baby dva life to stagger her and cut her from the team. The baby dva is harmless and can be killed at any time. The dva should lose about 15 seconds from that or more.
You can deny that if you die.

Yes, there are definitely times when you are stalling the point as long as possible (not just in OT) to either run down the enemy’s time bank or in the hopes that your team will respawn quickly enough that you can eventually win the fight. Sometimes players will want to take turns stalling the point (this often happens in OT, but it could happen at other times) knowing they will die, but hoping to stall as long as possible.

So are you saying I shouldn’t be so eager to finish off a baby dva ? Cause that just means she will spawn in a mech sooner ? That kind of makes sense …. I never thought of that. I mean some baby dva are Not harmless. Lmao. But I guess she’s more harmless in baby mode. Interesting. I’ll try to remember that.
