Why Would Anyone Use a M+KB on a Console?

Those who ask for crossplay between console and PC. You say that console users can use M+KB natively, so there’s no problem.

To which I say: The whole point of a console is not to use M+KB! I play console so I don’t have to worry about carpel tunnel and a hunched back for hours. I can instead, sit casually on a recliner with my legs up and the controls relaxed in front of me.

If I wanted to use a M+KB, I would play PC!

So who are these people that use a M+KB on console? Why? Just use a PC!

well a good PC that can run overwatch is way more costly than an xbox or playstation

its cheaper to buy a Keyboard and mouse for them then a whole PC (btw I never did that)

and also to get easy win vs controller players

It’s called having aim assist with a mouse

Besides that… I’ve played Ffxiv on my Ps4 for the past 3-4 years, and I use a keyboard on there. You could also use mouse, but I personally don’t.

There are lots of games that can use M+KB, and ones that don’t allow it yet people will buy a 100$ device to let them use one to cheat… regardless, people use M+KB all the time on console.

This is also a great point, especially with the new gen consoles. The Ps5 insta loads every game. Both consoles can maintain 144fps, which is much higher than the average PC can.

Because most people prefer to play shooters with M&K.

Same reason people use cheats, to win using any means possible!

Cos that’s not the whole point… :woman_shrugging:t6: lots do it cos it’s cheaper with a whole lot less faffing about but find controllers to be clunky and awkward for fast games. Just cos you want to use a controller doesn’t mean everyone has too.

The whole point of a console is also for those who don’t have or use a computer and still want to play the game…

I understand that this is the reason and point of playing it on a console for you. For other people it is about affordability and convenience. There is no machine that I am aware of that completely overwatch at 120 FPS quietly like the Xbox series S for only $250

You can get 240FPS on OW for like 700. I could probably get a 500 PC that can do 120FPS but I have never tried.

A console is a computer with a simplified operating system. Similarly to generic desktop computers (PCs), consoles always supported a lot of different input devices (light guns, racing wheels/pedals, joysticks, controllers, KBM, kinect, etc).

Light guns were supported even by consoles from the stone age (atari, nes) and racing wheels were a thing even with the first playstation (1994, a console I played on as a kid). On the DreamCast (1998) KBM was the primary input device for first person shooters (although it wasn’t included in the base package) and Quake 3 (a FPS game I played on it) was released to that console without aim assist.

Some input devices are naturally better fit for certain types of games. Today KBM is the best fit for most first person shooters. Period. This has nothing to do with the platform - it depends entirely on the game.

I think the primary issue with console+KBM was that most console users didn’t want to pay extra for overpriced console-specific KBM devices on top of the base package. The price is no longer an issue. Today console hardware (especially the connectivity part: usb/wireless) and software are much closer to PC than decades ago and even a cheap ~$20 KBM is an order of magnitude better input device for first person shooters than a controller.

If you play a first person shooter like OW with a controller then you are playing it in a suboptimal way. This isn’t necessarily an issue in a PvE game. In a PvP shooter there will always be some players who want to use an input device that is the best fit for the game. If KBM isn’t supported natively then sooner or later someone will find a way around it and you’ll be at a disadvantage.

If you prefer using a controller as the input device (I completely understand this) then you are better off with games in which it isn’t a disadvantage. I have a lot of different input devices and usually use the best fit for the game.

On console it gives them a HUGE advantage, but on PC they wouldn’t have the same advantage, that is probably why lol. They care about the precious number that they cheated to get.

Because they just happen to not use their console in the most comfortable, natural way of using a console system, as part of a central or personal home entertainment system sitting in a comfortable recliner, couch or bed a certain distance from their monitor, instead configuring it at a desk or table with it hooked up to a close screen emulating a PC, because preferences.

They also by coincidence are much better than their console using peers at Overwatch, but cannot thrive at all on PC.

It is just a coincidence that playing on a game given a built in aim hack based on the use of controllers while using MKB, they have optimized and finely honed their skills to the use of a console while playing against those using controllers.

Depends on your goal.

My goal is to play an FPS like Overwatch comfortably with my legs up and sitting on a recliner. So I choose a console. I have a gaming PC on which I have Overwatch installed. But I never use it, because it doesn’t fit my goals.

I turn 39 this June. Comfort first. Everything else is secondary.

If I use M&K on console, I can promise you I’ll absolutely trollstomp other players. The speed and accuracy on a M&K is SO much higher. And if I use a controller and another player DOES use it, I’ll be killed flat out a lot of the time. If players are trying to rank up, they’ll absolutely use M&K.

But do you place the mouse and keyboard on a table in front of you? And sit on a chair?

I would simply play on my gaming laptop. Why bother having a console?

It’s my brother’s console, and I made an account using it.
My controller broke.
Batteries are dead.
Wanted to see the difference first hand.
it was already set up with an M&K.
I played other PC shooters a lot more than console shooters.

Take your pick. Lots of reasons really.

Lol this is entirely avoidable. Just need a good chair and proper desk height. My secret labs chair keeps me in good posture and also reclines basically to a bed. I also have an ottoman under my desk for when I want to lounge and play games with a controller. I’ve fallen asleep in my chair it’s so comfy. Carpel tunnel mostly comes from blending your wrist too much. I used to have it when I played with stupid high dpi on a small mouse pad. But I haven’t had it since I got a big mouse pad and use more arm movements in my aim than wrist movements.

A lot of casuals want a very simple low maintenance computer dedicated to gaming. That computer is the video game console. You don’t have to mess with the operating system (windows), drivers and hardware (memory, graphics card, cooling related problems, etc). All released games are guaranteed to run without major performance or software compatibility issues because they have been developed for a fixed hardware/software configuration.

Well there’s two sides to it:

XIM users benefit from having substantially higher precision and camera speed than console players while still having aim assist.

On the other hand, a XIM is substantially less expensive than buying a whole PC, whether it’s prebuilt or you build it yourself. That, and you don’t have to spend money on another license of overwatch.

Basically people who want free rank. Most xbl players above 3.7k are XIM users.

I for one like to play on pc with my controller in my left hand (for movement) and the mouse in my right hand (for aim). On Xbox, I just can’t be bothered to buy a XIM, even though I know it’ll be easy sr gains.

And, honestly, that’s kinda where we’re headed. Look at the specs of the new gen of consoles and compare it to a nice, middle of the pack PC. They are computers and I bet in the coming few years they will start to be sold with keyboard and mouse accessories along with controllers.
