Why we need Illari when Kiriko does her job much more better

I noticed, my team usually says to me “you’re bad”. When I plays as Illari. My hero has 3 second heal cooldown, which making me useless as support. I can’t replace my turret when some little pinch hit it, after destroying it, still has 13 second cooldown. And my damage always is not enough. So many times enemies escape with 15 hp. And in game I have worst stats (tab window), of course when I playing as Illari. And noticed, Kiriko always has bigger damage value, bigger heal and maybe kills. She deals 240 crit damage per second comparing with… 105 crit damage for Illari, and she has spammy, long range, targeting heal. Illari has beam which heals slightly more than Kiriko, But:

  1. It short range beam
  2. You need aim
  3. You has 3 seconds cooldown

The worst thing is, that sometimes (often for me) your teammates moves like crazy ballerina, so your total heal quite low, and just falls to 3 seconds cooldown after 100hp healing. For player on Kiriko doesn’t matter that things, he just holding right click and guarantee heals allies. Very often I feel like Kiriko does Illari’s job much more better, as support (don’t forget about suzu also), and as damage dealer. She can spam heal and damage also, and be able to TP to teammate for safe him. Why we need Illari in this case? Her pickrate also quite low. Interesting, why? I think nobody miss her if she would be deleted from game… Maybe only 0.1% players will miss, no more

 Seriously though, I think she may need her primary charge time reduced. Pylon may need a little more health too.

Larry is the least played support for a reason. Blizzard listened to “pro players” and overnerfed this character. Now you have to work hard to accomplish less than semi-AFK Moira or something.

The current balance of the game doesn’t favor Illari’s playstyle, but that doesn’t mean she’s bad or useless just situational.

A good Illari can beat any Tracer.

I like dueling with enemy tracer. Can able to kill some players on tracer, but, what about other heroes? For example sombra, most of times she escapes with 15 hp. What is utility of my headshot if she be able to TP after two ones. Another problem is Illari have to wait for charge damage. For example for killing sombra with crits Kiri need about 1 second, Illari need 2.5. And in duels Kiri can use suzu to heal half of health, meanwhile Illaris pylon heals her to… 20 hp, even lower than solider’s station.

Illari is more comparable to Baptiste.
Except Bap… has the better hitscan gun with more damage potential, has two forms of AOE healing, has a better Outburst that reaches higher as a passive and as a bonus, has great utility to boot.

He is such a straight upgrade in every way, it isn’t even funny. Now that he’s had his recoil buffed, there’s no excuse to be bad at using his weapon anymore. The only thing Illari has going for her is a 5m increase in fall-off range.

The pointlessness of this hero frustrates me endlessly

Kiriko is the Mary Sue of this game. She was at release and she is now. A hero without weaknesses.

In tier lists I mostly see Illari in A and B categories. And maybe devs think that illari still good. Sometimes I was thinking, Do the tier lists makers even have played on Illari? Or they made a list based on what her players did? Then they didn’t know that Illari players which makers see, they is not average players, but Pro Illari mains, cause only them can useful on this hero

I prefer playing Illari over Kiriko, because Solar Rifle is hitscan, making it more reliable and enjoyable to land shots with. Leading shots on targets with Kiriko (and Zenyatta) is the part I like the least about them.

Healing Pylon takes care of chip-damage on teammates, allowing Illari to focus on shooting, while Kiriko has to choose between healing chip-damage or shooting.

Healing Ofuda gives Kiriko better sustained healing across different targets, even at range, but Healing Beam has better HPS with no travel time.

My only complaint about Illari is how Healing Pylon goes on a lengthy cooldown if you destroy it manually after an enemy has hit it. I think this should be halved, favoring both parties instead of just the attacker.

I know that. Illari’s attacking range is mid, Kiri and Zen slightly near than mid, but their projectiles slightly bigger than illari’s “bullets”. So I guess it is fair compensation between her hitscan and others projectile. My complain is her damage is not enough and her healing also, pylon sometimes isn’t reliable, cause cooldown and it can be detected by beam effect even in sneaky spots. You must predict when enemy will see your station to replace or destroy it before. I woudn’t create this theme if our Illari was good either on damaging either on healing. But we know in game exists heroes which do her job better

Illari is a niche support.

Great on payload/hybrid maps when you’re on defence. All of those maps have points where you can set up your pylon (especially at a chokepoint) and keep your team alive easily preventing the enemy team from really making any headway. Also great on control maps where you can set the pylon in a spot that’s relatively hard to hit and as long as your team is near the point/pylon they’re fine.

She’s not great however on maps where you’re on offense (maybe you could justify payload maps if the payload is big enough that you can stick your pylon to it without it getting immediately destroyed) or on maps where your tank (or worse your whole team) is constantly running ahead to chase kills.

So pick the support that’s best for the map/team comp you’re with. Kiriko can perform better in areas where Illari cannot and vice versa.

If the enemy team plays with Heroes that do a lot of backline harass to Supports, then you definitely have to consider switching to Brigitte, Moira, or whatever you prefer. Illari isn’t the only Hero who’s affected by this though.

Similarly, if your team plays with Heroes that harass the enemy backline, you might have to consider Lifeweaver, Zenyatta, or even Kiriko to keep up with them.

I actually prefer her on offense on Payloads, not because I can place the Healing Pylon on a payload (in my experience that just gets it killed), but because when I’m on defense the enemy team tends to dive into me or play alot of backline harass which are likely to find the Pylon. When attacking, I place the Pylon where my team is, and when we push forward I advance the Pylon. If we lose a fight, I retract it.

Ofc, it’s always awesome when a stalemate occurs, allowing Healing Pylon to sit in the same spot and heal constantly.

Illari is hitscan damage. which means shes easier and has an auto heal, which is easier.

In cases where Illari performing, Bap, Kiri, Ana at least even Juno will be more effective. She looks like weakest one comparing with others in this style of game

why even need kiriko when mercy does the job even better?

Suzu, damaging, ult. And yeah, kiri heals around 70-130. Mercy – 60… Mercy just has another utility (damage boost, revive, phara pocketing). Illari’s utility is damaging and healing, but as I said even this isn’t good comparing with others

Kiriko is the most precious, idk why you want to play illari when kiriko is there.

Yeah, that why I’m begining main her now. I liked Illari’s gun, something like sniper rifle, but without scope, and charging mechanic also seems interesting. But cause I can’t do good value on her and team usually complains me when I playing on Illari, I pick Shimado’s daughter. I mained Illari for 2-3 month, but after every season her state seems worse (cause other supports get buffs)
