I’m confused because, after playing Valorant, the two games are trying to attract wildly different audiences for DRAMATICALLY different gaming experiences.
Even if they straight up stole two of Hanzo’s skills 
Disses aside, I really like Valorant, but it never had a chance of competing with Overwatch. Not because its bad, because again I think the game is great (and has better gunplay than OW), the game is clearly trying to reach a more hardcore audience of shooter fans.
With that in mind, you were never able to compare the two games since the arguments are all dead in the water.
I remember someone saying “They nerfed Snipers in Valorant before they nerfed them in Overwatch”.
That post was especially stupid because, they don’t have “snipers” in Valorant like how they do in Overwatch. They have sniper RIFLES, as in guns you have to pick up, and not snipers like Widowmaker who have to compete with lighting fast characters, barriers that will block your fire with 100% effectiveness, and the like.
I really think people want to make Overwatch out to be worse than it is, making strawmen out of Widowmaker, Doomfist, Genji and the like to say they’re OP. When really these characters are vastly exaggerated. Even widowmaker mains struggle hard when they’re focused down, so I know that Widow who gets 5 perfectly accurate 1 shot kills, and then kills winston as soon as he dives her doesn’t exist.
it was a great showcase of people’s frustrations and lingering desires from the hero shooter genre, but that’s about all that made it feel relevant to overwatch to me

The real reason? It was targeted social media marketing by Riot. Many of the 1 million twitch ‘viewers’ were bots, too.

Most people just clung to the fact that there were multiple heroes with different abilities, just like how they insist OW is a MOBA for the same reason.
I do agree though. As someone who enjoys both for what they are, they aren’t really comparable at all. Folks who were complaining that the Op got nerfed before Widow really, really don’t know what they’re getting into.

I think they compared it to Overwatch just bc it’s a hero team shooter w abilities and an ultimate.
I remember Apex was called “Battle Royale Overwatch” for like the first week of its’ release, just bc the characters had abilities and ultimates.

Valorant is what happens if CS have a night with Overwatch.
It has everything I hate in CS - terrible waiting times. Camp simulator game.
They’re uphappy with the game, and in true stalker fashion instead of leaving their love, they have to hope for it’s utter destruction by a new one.
Valorant is CS:GO with crappy abilities. It just has an artstyle more similar to Overwatch.

Exclusively because I just played it for the first time today and got curious why people thought it was like Overwatch.
Same reason people compared Battleborn to Overwatch. The characters have abilities.
