Avoid as teammate is officially here and I’m super happy about that, but I noticed that Prefer this Player has been removed. why?
Blizzard is trying to encourage a cooperative team environment with this game, right? Avoid as teammate was tuned in such a way that it can’t exploit matchmaking for easy wins, but still helps you find teammates you stnergize more with.
Why can we both have both features? Prefer this player wasn’t broken at all. sometimes preferred players would be your enemy. so you couldn’t get easy wins out of it, it just allowed you to more often queue with nicer people in the lobby
Im pretty sure ive preferred about 300 players since i bought this game. I always prefer players that aren’t toxic, and that are willing to switch/communicate
I was so excited that with this new update I’d be able to
- Prefer the well mannered and fun players
- Avoid the unfun and uncooperative players
Y’know. build my own team based environment that was fun and fair
But now prefer is gone? Its not like im gonna queue with friends when comp punishes you for it, so why can i no longer give the matchmaker a general idea of what players i like and dont like?

Because people were using it to get the AMM to help them stalk people they wanted to harass.

No, but we need a system that allows players to play with people they prefer. There are many players that are good but you can’t add them all to your friend list. It’s also a really good method of keeping track of good players

I always found prefer player helpful when I came across cooperative players… I’m sad it’s gone now.

I’ve seen a few posts (previous to the removal of it) asking for it to be removed because it makes it very easy to queue snipe and harass others, understandable. However, with the addition of Avoid as Teammate, I think both could work well together. I think they should add it back.

Yes, It is silly that prefer this player which can accomodate tens of people is replaced with avoid this player with 2 slots. Pick one side and give us many options.

People would have exploited it along with Avoid as Teammate
Here’s the easiest way:
- Find a thrower, on either team
- Prefer that player, then simultaneously Avoid as Teammate
- Get free wins as you increase the likelihood of getting a thrower in your games, but only on the enemy team
Because you shouldn’t be any more likely to queue with someone without their consent, and there is already friend requests, group invites, and “stay as team” to do that. Those all require consent by both parties, while “prefer player” did not. It should never have been in the game. It was mostly used to harass.
It stops you trashcans from being boosted
