Its an aesthetic choice.
Look at Genji, Bob, and Mercy. They are very differently dressed compared to their normal attire and for Xmas.
Even Mercy was ashifted from the left frame closer to the middle to have a very clear contrast where you have the warm fire of winter in the middle, Mercy on the left, then balanced out by Bob/Genji on the right.
But yeah, they put Mercy more in view compared to Genji/Bob as those two don’t have skins.
I don’t think it has to do with any woke reasons, but mainly a balance in the artwork which was heavily clashed with Ashe smack dab in the middle.

I really hope that isn’t the reason. If anything I feel like that would entice people to buy stuff considering the popularity of their…risqué side of the community

Honestly, it’s just an art composition choice. The menu design draws attention to the left, which lets them put attention on Mercy.
Ashe in the original drawing pulls the attention towards the right (or center, depending on how the image is cut). Your eyes start at Mercy (the largest object) and travels right towards Ashe and Bob. This clashes with the menu design. Removing Ashe keeps attention on the left, where Mercy is and where the menu is.
I thought it was because of that ashs isnt a skin so they wanted mercy to be the main focus

I legit thought it was still Ashe for a few days. Maybe my screen was zoomed in for awhile or something, I didnt notice the wings, saw Bob, and… yeah 
Everything Blizz does is to make money.
Why did Mercy get swapped in? Really? The mercy-mafia has deep pockets, I’m not surprised at all Blizz keeps pandering to them.

Who at blizzard said it was removed for that please show me them saying that it marketing 101 and art 101 ash was the center of the art making her the focus inturn they wanted to make mercy the focus to sell skins its business.
