Title. It’s nice to see other people hate the same maps that I do, however.
It gives the map a higher chance of getting picked.
Each vote adds another chance of getting picked (and then a few more? IDK how that works)
So let’s say there are three maps, with the votes represented by the letter
AA BBBBBBBB C
So even though B has a higher chance of getting picked, it doesn’t mean C won’t get picked.
You vote to increase the likelihood of getting the map you want to play…
Right, but why not go with the majority vote without the silly system roll? It’s annoying when it still picks a map most people didn’t want.
Because going with just majority also introduces issues. Then certain maps majority don’t enjoy over others, might not ever get played. And certain maps get played a lot of people always vote for it when it pops up. I like kings row, but I don’t want to play it like 1 out of every 5 games.
With the votes just increasing probability, we still play every map. The more popular maps will be played more, the less popular will be played less, but they still see some play time. Push is my favourite game mode, I understand it’s not the favourite for majority of people. But I still have a chance to play the map I wanted, albeit lower depending on the votes. Tho I did play it a good bit yesterday, good amount of other people also voted it.
Because I do not care what other people want. My vote is my own.
You know… like if I vote for the loony party at the election. It hypothetically increases the chances of it getting picked.
But it ain’t getting picked.
Because they are different types of votes.
One is majority wins, and the other is majority has a better chance at winning.
You actually have no evidence that map voting impacts map choice at all.
It would be relatively simple to code in fake interface that gave the appearance of voting and just see if people would except the results.
I have basic evidence that it works. I’ve been in the lobbies were most vote for one map, one joker votes for the second map, and the second map wins.
Sometimes, I am that one joker >:)
And sometimes, that one vote wins. I think its good to have a system like that because flashpoint fans shouldn’t be SO under loved that they just can’t play their mode anymore. Its unconventional, but I think people should be satisfied with having that much sway in every match. Instead these posts are like “Its not enough that I can dramatically reduce the odds of playing a map I don’t like. They just shouldn’t be in the game anymore, and people who like those maps should just take the L.”
No, sometimes you have to take the L. Sometimes I don’t want to play Kings Row 10 times in a row.
Actually the only thing you can verify is what you vote for unless you go to the trouble of independently finding out what the group votes for.
At that point you still can’t say the votes actually impact the results unless you have a 100% vote for one map. Even if you exclude a map via voting the result may still not be random at all.
You can kinda see what your team votes for if you see a check mark next to a name right after a selection is made. I see your point though; we can never be 100% sure without seeing the code.
Yeah thats not hard to code at all.
Hell its not hard to make it so that real voting only occurs for groups but solo que gets displayed fake votes.
The voting changes the odds. Let’s say 10 people vote for map A, 2 people vote for map B, and nobody votes for map C.
In this scenario, map C won’t happen. Map A has 5:1 odds of being chosen over map B. So map A is 5x more likely but not a guarantee.
This ensures that there’s no tyranny of the majority for people who like less popular maps.
But you do?
So show me the proof that it is.
This 100%. 7 people vote one map, 3 another, and it picks the one that only got 3. Another was picked with ZERO votes. What is the point to all this of this crap?
I’m surprised so many folks are against this system considering how presidential elections work in the United States.
You really enjoy reading into stuff don’t you.
Without being able to directly see the underlying system there is no way for anyone to know how it works.
The devs can make it look like its working anyway they want.
That is not me saying it works like this. That is me saying you don’t know how it works.
without being able see the system you actually have no idea if thats how it works at all. Thats how its displayed to work. There is no real way of knowing how it works.
It’s similar to how people where complaining about how much people where playing push on OW2 launch. Everyone told them they where nuts… till blizzard said yes you are seeing these two maps more often cause they are the only two push maps.
What’s the point of even responding if you’re not going to answer my questions? You’ll just continue with whatever you want to say - you might as well go talk to a wall if you’re just going to continue he conversation how ever you want it to go.
So until you actually answer my questions…
