Why Tracer OW 1 > Tracer OW 2?

Hiya !

I don’t usually post on Overwatch Community to share my feedback so be kind (also im pretty bad in english ) c:

I know I’m not the only one who feels that but Tracer from OW 1 is so much more fun and enjoyable to play than on OW 2. I asked a lot of people about that and they all agree on that point. Just a little reminder for you guys, I don’t want Tracer to be broken or on top of the meta, all I point here is she’s way less fun on OW 2 and I really want to have this fun on OW 2 when I play her.

- Hitreg is scuffed
Some content creators tweeted about that and they got the same conclusion about the hitreg. Tracer is one of a character who do the most hitmarker and because of this bug a lot of her bullets just disappeared. For this reason, you do so much less damage (if you keep in mind that Tracer got nerfed on her damage its a real problem). They also changed her pattern to be more consistent but I don’t know if it can have an impact on her damage problem.

- Sensitivity feeling is really bad as well
I really don’t know why this feeling is so different compared to OW 1. I’ve spent almost 3000 hours on Kovaak (with a lot of Top 10 on it) so I consider myself pretty decent at tracking but on OW 2 it looks like I’ve never touched a FPS of my life (except when I track someone who’s discord). I spoke with some players I met in game and they agree as well on this thing. I really think also we lost a lot of maneuverability and fluidity in OW 2 on camera movement (and no it’s not about ping or smth).

- Sound of Tracer’s weapon
It’s a bit personal but I really feel that the sound of Tracer’s weapon is waaaay better on OW 1. On OW 2, I have some difficulties sometimes to know if I hit the target or just a wall. This sound was so iconic, why did remplace it and why at least did they not put a setting for choosing which sound you want to play with.

- Terrible voicelines
Another downgrade I noticed is that some voiceline like “ZOOOOM” (when you blink 3 times) or “Zip zap zop” (I think it’s when you blink melee someone) just completely perturb me. Like I don’t use the Comic Skin, so I don’t want silly voiceline like that, all the more that on OW 1, we have plenty of iconic voicelines when you blink 3 times for example.

- DPS speed passiv
When some people thought it was a good passiv for Tracer, I was a bit doubtful because if you think that you can in and out, what I see is when you got a kill, your speed is increased so it’s way too hard to kill someone else. I think it might be a thing that I need to play with to get the habit but I feel so uncomfortable.

- More speed
To continue on what I write above, right now in the game there are so many characters who can speed and are meta and that’s a big problem for Tracer’s tracking (Kiriko speed, Lucio speed, JK speed, ect…). Fun fact, I really try to avoid Kiriko ultimate because it’s awful for Tracer. Fun fact, even if on OW 2 there are too many speed effects, the feeling of speed that Tracer gets on OW 1 is completely gone on OW 2.

- New characters shape
Kiriko, Sojourn and even JK (for a tank) are so skinny, it’s almost impossible to deal with them quickly. I even try to put myself at 8 meter and shoot a Sojourn in the neck/torso (in practice range) and Tracer can’t even one clip her, so imagine when you are in game. Another little thing which tilted me on that point is that I was around 50% accuracy at the end of OW 1 and I barely have 38% on OW 2 (I know that we lost 1 tank but it can’t drop like that).

- Melee someone = Earthquake
I know that there is a setting for that but even when I disabled the shake of the camera, it still has a weird interaction when I hit someone with a melee.

- Too much effect on my screen
It looks like we are playing double shield sym… There is way too much effect when you play. Even the healing effect that support gets is really weird for tracking them.

Anyway, thank you guys for taking your time to read this topic. I might have forgotten some arguments on why Tracer from OW 1 is way better than OW 2. I really want to test Tracer from OW 1 on OW 2 just to see if the character is gonna be bad or not. I repeat that I don’t want Tracer to be broken, what I want to point out here is that she’s awful to play, you can’t get fun… I hope Blizzard will change that (I’ve no hope :c)

Edit : I found a new weird thing that makes Tracer even weaker. There is a 0,5 second delay on every action you made in the game. The problem is that it affects a lot Tracer because the character is all about timing ( bait a sleep by blinking for example ). You can test it with a friend who sleeps you, try to recall immediately when you wake up and you will see that Tracer has a delay before using her ability.

As a Tracer main, I completely agree that Tracer just does not feel fun in Overwatch 2. The damage nerf and bullets not hitting have been a large factor in that. She is a sensitive hero. It does not take much to make her OP or trash. Maybe going to a middle ground number between her old dmg vs her new dmg. Right now it feels like Sombra has completely replaced Tracer.

Edit: I also feel like her sensitivity may bugged two because I have had the same sense for years no problem, but in OW2 I had to change it for just her not other heroes

While I feel the same way, I’m afraid that Tracer Mains will certainly be a bit biased. I guess we’ll have to wait for Overbuff to release the new Overwatch 2 data.

Yeah agree with the majority of your points. Especially the sensitivity part. I can’t even find the root of the problem, my aim just feels differently now for whatever reason.

i feel they done her wrong honestly im even fustrated like i play her and D.va and feel like things need to change for Tracer she needs some buffs like some characters continue to be insanely OP while she gets thrown on the backburner

About the sensitivity, I can add a little information : before Blizzard closed their server forever for OW 1, I tried to play Tracer with the nerf she got in OW 2 in a private party (code : VAXTA it’s an aim trainer, I put it in hard mod with only skinny character to track), and the nerf didn’t affect the fun at all. So I don’t really don’t know what the real problem is but there is definitely one.

Edit : Someone found how to fix a bit the sensitivity problem : https://twitter.com/brightsidefps/status/1578141003256451072

Omg you’re the life saviour, it actually works! The render scale one was definitely the main issue.

I really don’t think Tracer is an “assassin” in OW2 like in OW1. Her one clip potential is very limited. It seems to me she is played more like a clean-up and harasser DPS. If this isn’t your playstyle then you will likely not enjoy her in OW1.

My hot take for DPS players is to just play tank if you want to do damage in OW2.

Tracer also does more damage in OW1, so prob that is why where all your fun came from as well.

Took a whole 6 years for her to get nerf.

Can’t disagree on all the things you saying… she’s not very fun at all.
