Taking a look at the “new” Genji skin, its very obviously a reskin of the sentai skin aside from the mask, the little piece of metal sticking out the elbow, and the weird spheres around the knee. Aside from that, its completely identical…
Then taking a look at the Junkrat skin, the untrained eye might not be able to see it, but the only changes is literally just the hat and wheel. Everything else has a different texture. Why on earth is this a legendary? It should be an epic...
I could also point out the Lucio lifeguard skin thats also a reskin, but I’ve already made my point.
3 skins in the battle pass are reskins. Theres more reskins in the shop coming at full price. That makes around 7-9 reskins. What on earth are you doing Blizzard?
Running low on man power due to layoffs with the time between things never increasing to match
Basically, poorly managed as always and still high prices that don’t match the quality. People buy it anyways, management pats themselves on the back for a scam well done, and life goes on.
At least Elden Ring is this week and Nintendo continues to be a bastion of hope for quality games even if you dislike their community interactions
I work in television animation and we use what’s called reusable assets all the time for everything from set dressings to character outfits and even background characters when a recolor tends to happen. We also know when a character is modelled off of an older B roll character so that we can change it just enough to not have it stand out.
You guys think this sorta thing is just now happening but games and television have been doing this kinda thing for a long long time it just saves time money and resources to get it done faster when time is your limited currency. Do you think their artists aren’t working on anything else so this must be them just taking the easy path? Unfortunately the majority of the masses wont recognize the re-use and it’ll be fine for them and it’ll still sell. I think a lot of you players are just looking for something to complain about so your nitpicking every little detail like you found the holy grail. I’m sorry but the world and economics doesn’t solely revolve around you and if this is something your not happy about maybe its time you moved onto another game to play because your just gonna end up complaining more and more about the “evil corporations.”
My point is Blizz is trying to make as much money the cheapest way possible and sometimes that requires retooling existing skins. I hope my post doesn’t come across too condescending I have yet to have my coffee today and I tend to post a lot more grumpy without my caffeine. In the end this stuff will still sell and that’s why they keep getting made this way. Take care
Well when you fire most of the art dept they have to get a lil bit “creative” to make it look like they did a lot of work, without doing a lot of work.
I tend to notice this type of stuff since I usually dabble in 3D modeling. Its crazy what texturing and bump mapping can do to change a skin. I know in older skins, they reused an asset off of Torbs turret rivet that you see in a few other skins, alongside some maps every now and then. That type of reuse I’m fine with; it saves time and money. What I’m not happy about is blatantly taking a complete skin and slopingly adding next to nothing to change it. Like you said, the average joe won’t notice a clever texture/bump map change. For me, unfortunately, its a bit of a curse noticing this when you’re in the trade. It must have taken them 2-3 hours max to make both of these skins.
I wouldn’t be too upset if the Junkrat skin wasn’t labeled as a legendary and if the Genji skin was in store. Blizzard is wildly inconsistent when it comes to labeling base OW2 recolor skins as epics or legendaries. The whole Moira mime incident is evidence enough.
Its that inconsistency that bothers me since Blizzard now has a pass to label something legendary and slap it in the battle pass.
Genji’s skin, while very similar to the ones he already has, is definitely not a reskin. Junkrat’s skin is an epic, as far as I know, which are usually slightly modified and recolored base skins.
I just find it funny that the Junkrat skin is classed as legendary even though it should be epic with it being a default recolor and all while Lucios is an epic while being a recolor of a legendary
When they said they wanted to focus all their efforts on PvP what they actually mean is they wanted to lay off their developers and outsource the art production to the lowest bidder. Easy mistake to make.
Players are just tired of the OW2 monetization. The main source of revenue are the skins but most people don’t want to support them even if they like them.
Legendary skins goes for $19 and bundles for $26. Months later these same cosmetics could be available for free without any compensation for players who have previously bought them. Compare this to Fortnite that ALWAYS refunds players with V-bucks whenver cosmetics are going free in the future no matter when players bought them.
Not only are these cosmetics half or a third the price of a brand new game, but if you just wait some months the chance is that you can get them for free. No wonder you see comments on forums and YouTube mentioning it and how frustrating it is especially with these high prices since OW2, also when you compare to OW1 where you could literally get all cosmetics for free.
Blizzard only improves monetization when its too late which ends up messing up and making more damage to their games that already have a issue with bringing money.
I’m one of the players who would support this game with shop item purchases if the pricing were more reasonable and if you get refunded if cosmetics later are available for free. But since Blizzard have decided to keep not listening to their customers when it comes to issues regarding monetization and gameplay (for instance have at least one 6v6 mode in the game) me and many others just don’t have the willingness to support them.
This BP having recolors just shows how far the monetization has damaged the games reputation and people just not wanting to support this anymore.
