Why the devs are talking to the CC and not us

I just want to be clear that the end goal is to give us whatever reason Info they have, however the devs also want to give us the most polished and understandable version of that content.

So it’s pretty reasonable to want to get a feedback from the content creators in the mean time, as these are in fact experienced OW players that in themselves have played thousands or more hours of the game. And well are people that can be kept under NDA, and well have public business info for them to actually contact.

Like they are the sample size of our overall all interaction. All of which coming from in from different perspectives. Some love what their their doing to change the game, while others have been extremely critical of the devs.

And even after the showing some did remain skeptical, so you know it wasn’t a media buy out.

Be it that with the reactions and feedback by this community sample size they can then make changes to best present whatever they have cooking at the moment. Especially if it’s coming to be something big overall.

Like if it’s a beta around the corner, last thing the devs need is one bit of miscommunication to ruin the whole announcement.

Even then game companies have been doing this very thing for years with the general press, if anything it’s better for them to be reaching out to people in the know more so then people that only have like ten or less hours to interact with the game.

So far they have only shown how much they want the game to be good for watching. Reaching out to content creators of all things just seals that fact even more.

Strange, their recent trend of “content” hasn’t really been shown to have that “Blizzard polish” that some people seem to talk about. How peculiar.

They’ve kinda been miscommunicating for a while now, so it’s not like that would be anything new…

You do realize that half of the OW CC they reached out to mostly do speculation and news videos right?

I mean when it comes to presentation animations, gameplay feed back, sound design, they are some of the best in the industry.

Like they can make a game that really does feel good to play.

I mean they have more or less been pretty blatent with everything OW2 wise. Like hey their is a new PVE game in the works, also we are reworking PVP. PvP will be a free update.

both of which will be packaged and sold together.

you get that blizzard is horrible place to work in? why would they want to talk to us…they need to talk to an union.

Oh yes and I’m sure that is what they brough in the CC to discuss.

It may FEEL good to play, but does it actually PLAY good?

As much as Overwatch is an artistic piece, it’s also a game. If the gameplay isn’t enjoyable, then it won’t matter how visually appealing it is.

Then again, their current problem of heroes being “balanced” but not “fun/enjoyable” is something in need of addressing.

Additionally, the map design in Overwatch 2.0 is rather flat: colors and textures look desaturated and environments are missing that vibrancy, and let’s not forget the narrative sense either.

Well they are M8, the core reason their moving to 5v5 is to more or less rebalance the experience in the favor of the individual player.

The removal of the second tank more or less opens of the mid and back line to more direct engagements by the opposing team. Meaning that after say an initial team clash, fights will quickly be breaking down into smaller more spread-out engagements. (you see this all over the pro game play)

Allowing for more duals then team focus fire tests.

And inturn of this giving supports and tanks more damage or at least more consistent damage tools to play around with. like Winston’s new right click charge shot. as it not only allows him to keep pressure at a distance, but in turn allows him to start his normal dive combo with an extra 50 points of damage.

while an was doing an 110 points of damage(POD) per shot.

I mean all maps are like that even going as far back as Kings row, like they want the heroes to be the most colorful things on the maps for it to stand out better. It’s basic shooter 101 game design their.

Not to forget that gameplay wise this maps looked bigger and wider specially with 2 less tanks and filled with exploitable high grounds so heroes like Widow and Pharah will be even more dominant

People keep saying that, but a lot of that area is either covered by the cart (because yes maps need room for the cart to move). Or are filled with LOS breaks.

That and without that second tank, it makes it rather easy for say that widow or Pharah to be contested without interference.

Because it’s better to stay in a Echo chamber than to hear your ideas are bad.

They understand that content creator’s will do anything they say just so they can get sponsored

How is it an echo champer, when it’s people from outside the company. Half of which have been singing doom and gloom for the game/company. many of which share dramatically different opinions on how OW/ow2 should be handled.

its a perfectly reasonable thing to do…but you know…not us so…REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Here’s the thing: the problem with Tanks isn’t their lack of damage, but the inability to close distances effectively without a Support tied to them.

  • Reinhardt is still slow when Barrier Shield is deployed.
  • Winston will get bursted or outranged without the use of his barrier.
  • Orisa.
  • D.Va.
  • Zarya being too restrictive with her abilities, thus lessening her strength in a solo environment.

Only Wrecking Ball, Roadhog, and Sigma are in relatively good positions for solo tanking, barring a few adjustments.

As for Supports, while having more damage is okay, if it comes with heavy hits to healing, then they might as well be Damage-lite. Supports need to find a balance between damage output, utility, and healing: having high healing means less utility and less/moderate damage; high utility means moderate damage and less healing; etc.

Heres the thing: there’s a reason Kings Row is considered one of the best Overwatch maps. It’s nighttime atmosphere is captivating, the map has a relatively balanced design from a gameplay perspective (may needing a slightly tweaked layout for first point), and it actually provides a reason for why the players fight on this map in the first place.

Very few maps hit all three aspects, and maps like Numbani and Eichenwalde hit two aspects, but miss one.

In Overwatch 2.0, maps are going to need varying cover to substitute the missing Tank and instance where the only Tank isn’t defensive-orientated. Additionally, health packs should be reinstated in conventional ways to supplement the less Support healing and remove some burden from Support players.

I highly doubt the Overwatch team will be capable of doing this, much less the more complicated ideas, so I’m anticipating an absolute mess that might be fun for a few months but then fizzle out due to neglecting key problems. Which is why we’re here in the first place, really.

They have addressed quite a bit of this for while now, firstly OW is an objective based shooter. Teams have to fight over the small area that is around the cart or point, So you even in this more spread out gameplay their will always be at least one player that has to engage the tank in their effective range.

Also their are plenty of LOS breaks/flank routes for say your dive tanks to move into a dive from a closer angle. at least on the new maps, old ones are tba and possibly being reworked to some extent.

That and supports will now be in a much more vulnerable posistion, meaning that with their damage buffs. They themselves will have to take time away from healing, to situate the threat. Meaning that both teams are not going to be recieving as much healing as a lot of people would think.

Also like just a fresh reminder that your team also has dps that inturn can shoot and keep the attention of the other dps. Like tanks won’t have the full attention of every player on the map as much as people think they would.

but to break each tank down for you.

Rien:
For starters much to players disbelief his sheild is designed to break around the time he get close to the objective/enemy team(or at least be low). Thus starting the brawl with his base health as his main way surviving.

Even then his now cancelable/ more maneuverable charge, makes it so that he can close in spaces a lot easier close in or by pass others. like he can turn the corner and cancel the charge right before he hits the enemies LOS.

Winston:
Well he is designed that way on purpose, as to force him to dive only when he has a barrier to spend. As in many cases he kind of skips the slow crawl towards the enemy in favor of jumping right into their face, with a fat bubble to claim his space.

Thus putting him on a hard timer between dives. this is also why his mobility cooldown is shoorter then the barriers, as they want him to make the choice of disngage or pushing thougher in to disrupt more with your base health instead.

Orisa:
She is most likely being reworked at the moment do to her being not usable in the Ow2 pro preview so tba on that one.

D.va:
Much like winson’s she will have plenty of los breaks and other flanks routes to get close to the enemy. Like shocker you don’t have to meet them face to face in long corridor, like circle around them or use that oh so horrifying highground everyone is so scared about.

Zayra:

??? they allowed bubbles to be used either on herself or a teammate. ya you might want to spread out those bubbles, more so then pop them both at once. But unlike say a winston bubble or a rien shield, you can’t really get around a zarya bubble. you either have to wait it out, or shoot through the extra 200 hp.

Like keep in mind we are no longer in the sustain war were two tanks maintain the fight in one loction. till one of them falls over. As outside of the zarya and rien matchup specifically you are more or less going to be able to shoot the enemy alamost immediately. So say popping a bubble on to a dps (or even a support) to secure a kill real quick can easily tip the game into a four v five.

The other three should be fine as well, be it that sigma is also seemingly being reworked at the moment.

well fun fact all maps can be played at night in OW2, even in noon, morning, mid day. Or whatever other settings they add to it. (Sand storm anyone? ahah not a pvp thing tho)

Even then what you talking about post that point is mostly subjective more then anything, Like kings row gameplay wise is great, don’t get me wrong their.

Be it that I would like to point out you only mentioned two actually aspects here:

the third thing as you put is because of the first two, not a separate point in it’s self.

I think the problem is they should not let them talk about it if they cant give any details
People seem to just be tired of the suprises and secrets about secrets, especially since those are not always as good as person saying are.
(it remind me of the big post about future “content” that was full of “secrets we cant talk about”, that was once on the forum, it was the worse announcement i ever saw and back there i was actually in to learning more about games i play)

Not really as this believe it or not is good press to have a lot the people that were marketing the doom and gloom of OW, to suddenly express their excitement for OW’s future in 2022 specifically

Or at the very least be hopefully skeptic of such.

You mean other than the fact their lame joke experimental patches get better feedback than their own attempts?

This press will not reach much people or make those who are not part of fandom of certian streamer more easy about it in my opinion at least.
Many people who play this game will probably dont care, since content creator to them is just some stranger with opinion that might as well never be even close to theirs.

oh it will when the Nda’s run out and whenever the ow team is ready to announce whatever, as at that piont their is not only a big official announcement, but a whole host of community members ready that had time to create decently well thought out content in response.

Like youtube will be filled to the brim with 12 min plus vids for a good few weeks post announcement.
