Why the #@$% can we still not turn off hitmarkers?!

This has been a repeatedly asked thing since the game launched, there is no excuse. They clutter things up and are ridiculous in a game where you have characters like tracer and orisa.

Here’s hoping they get a clue for Overwatch 2.

…What are hitmarkers?

It’s the little sound and HUD element around your crosshair that triggers when you hit someone or something with damage.

I don’t know, OP. It’s not something I care about, but I still think it should be in the game and it annoys me to no end that we still don’t have health bar outlines after all this time.

They have talked about ability clarity, crosshair customization, clarity in sound effects, but they think a giant X that grows in the middle of your screen for every bullet landed is a good idea? They even took a pass and made them smaller which virtually nobody asked for, LET US GET RID OF THEM.

Hit markers (and the specific sound) are actually hihhly appreciated by the FPS community, because it gives them an indicator for their attacks.

This is actually the first time I see someone talk negatively towards it.

Give it a search in google or on here, posts from 2016 through 2020 will be brought up. So many little things they overlook for people with sight issues, such as health bar outlines like a previous reply talked about.

The sound is more than enough, this isn’t a game where you’re shooting at targets 100m away behind cover. I am sure people love them, others of us do not. I resort to turning off my HUD to get around it whenever I fancy playing tracer, and these pve events bring the issue to the forefront every time.

Do other Fps games allow you to turn off hitmarkers? I’ve honestly never heard of this.

Yes, it is also barely different from turning off your crosshair completely which this game also allows. Who would want no crosshair but keep hitmarkers? Ridiculous.

Huh, well I hope they add this then. Bump to your post :+1:

More options never hurt anyone.

I know in TF2 you could. I think it was originally a CoD thing, and I don’t remember if you could turn it off in that, but TF2 added it like a year after launch and it was optional I think from the moment it was released. I feel like the reason either has something to do with an Apple design philosophy of not wanting to overcomplicate things, and I’m reasonably sure that is actually why they don’t let you customize the HUD at least, or that it’s just difficult to allocate resources for something like that when you’re part of Activision/Blizzard with Bobby Kotick and people like him breathing down your neck.

Oh wow, that’s really interesting, I actually find it super satisfying when I’m Tracer. McCree and Zen as well. Don’t notice it for others though. Either way I’m all for customizing the game experience and agree the visual clutter needs toning down. An option to disable hitmarkers would be good.

I don’t remember if you could turn off your crosshair, but playing without it for a while makes your aim way better. You don’t have that easy marker for “it shoots here”, so you have to trust yourself and really try to aim.

You can yes, but hitmarkers stay sadly. I first got used to no crosshair back in the day with quake 3 railgun tourneys, it definitely improves aim. I’m glad I built that skill because I hate the hitmarkers here :\

If that’s what they are, then I appreciate the hitmarkers. I find them helpful and pretty satisfying, honestly.

But I have to agree - Healthbar outlines would be a much-needed addition.

They should fix the noregs first. Who cares about hitmarkers when some of your shots go MIA…

Has to be because of the visual clutter. Hitmarkers do not help in that case(I’d assume the same effect could be achieved with only sound)

This thread was from a year ago, why would you post here :\

Holy necro, but since you already did it here’s my 2 cents: hit markers are super useful, but I would never say the option to turn them off is a bad idea.

Please add a disable option for the visuals, I don’t mind the audio at all.
