Why so many Junkrats?

Someone needs to explain this. Especially in QP, he is everywhere again! Just spam, spam, spam from the far away. So annoying.

I don’t know but I am definitely seeing him a ton in QuickPlay since the mid-season patch. And I have no idea why.

If I’m not mistaking, his one shot combo is back. Also, support HP nerfs makes him more viable.

He plays better into tanks after the armor and displacement resistance nerfs as well.

Junk does decent damage (like a a grenade launcher should) against pretty much anything in reach.
If it’s anything like the past, it won’t last. Rat’s are not allowed to have fun, same with Mei.

He benefitted from the armour changes. Gets loads of value against the tanks. Can zone out areas, including chokes, effectively without requiring much in the way of aim. Isn’t affected by headshot passive on tanks.

He’s also good in Clash so you see him most Clash games.

I’ve seen a lot more of him for a while, with even more of him very recently. I think he’s fun to play and ok to play against as long as his pick-rate is not too high. It’s already crossed the line on being too high this season.

If you cant aim well enough to make good use of a hitscan hero, junk is always there as a decent standby

yep, no matter how sometimes telegraph Junk’s gameplay can sometimes be, some people I guess just don’t want to deal with using the smallest amount of brain power, and instead resort to complaining about character that can be easily countered with some thought put into the gameplay…

He got his combo back? When? Huh? The hell? The Forums are stopping me from swearing as much as I would like to in order to celebrate this if it’s true?

Junkrat is probably the hero i am most technically skilled with. This is an assumption because I am bad.

But I do not like seeing the enemy team have a hitscan. I dread seeing more than one, because the minute I go vertical, my dome is jomed.

Is that bad? No, that’s a good thing. Weakness to the Rat, yeah. He’s very floaty and unless you waste both mines and have high AF sense, you can’t move horizontally to potentially mess up a widow or Ashe or soldier or Illari… So I usually prioritize lateral movement instead of horizontal the minute I notice a hitscan, either that or just come up behind them and kamurder them…

He does 245 with the combo now if you get a direct with the primary and as close as possible with the mine. Against the new 225 HP characters that’s dead vs 5 HP left with the 250s.

He’s an effective “classic” defense-role hero that focused on control and denial of space. In a game loaded with mobility, he’s fairly effective at shutting that down, as well as being a strong hero against virtually anyone. His “burst-damage” combos are difficult to heal or prevent as well, and Kiriko can’t clear those caught in his Trap.

Not to mention, Junkrat himself is fairly mobile, and he’s great at punishing lower-ranking players who have little understanding of cover, or positioning.

Armor didn’t really affect him, but he’s always been strong against barriers to some limited degree, and yeah, the displacement passive reduction on Tanks does improve him a bit.

Concussion Mine displacements have a fixed trajectory, it is always up and back at a 30-ish degree angle, no matter where the explosion hits.

No, he doesn’t. He can be an effective artillery on Tanks, but he didn’t really benefit one-way or another on the armor changes. Tanks can and will easily destroy as they do to just about any hero.

Small areas where defense and control is crucial is why we have “defense” heroes in the first place. All of the above quoted is correct and Junkrat excels here (as does Ashe).

None of these heroes are Junkrat’s stronger match-ups, either way.

Alternatively, Trap, Frag, Mine will do 300+ damage for a kill on anyone with 300 or less health.
