Why so few tanks play 6v6?

Hey

So 6v6, 222 test is going on.

Last time I’ve launched the game, I wanted to try 6v6. The queue times were 1min, 6min, 4min.
The 5V5 QP queue times were 1,2,1. 5v5 Ranked times were 1,2,2.

So here’s my question, if you’re a tank player : why don’t you queue in 6v6 anymore ?

Maybe if we can find out the problem thatp revents people from queuing Tanks, it could be useful for making the game better, 6v6 or not.

Personally, I thought the main reason was the boring design of most tanks. But in the current test, we have the OW2 dynamic tanks and yet the queue is running dry already. So it means, that’s not the reason and I’m wondering then, what is it ?

Just depends on what time you play, in OCE if you play during the afternoon the queue times might look like 4 6 9, whereas by the night it’s more like 2 1 2

I love 6v6. I play all 3 roles though.

first reason though that’s slowing down is I love playing rein, and having a partner tank makes playing rein soooo much more fun IMO but playing old style rein with unsteerable charge and 1 fire strike feels kinda lame… I feel like all I’m doing is holding up my sshield now I’m never looking for pins anymore because it’s now too risky because you can easily just walk out of the way of a charge going in a straight line and I have to be conservative with my 1 single fire strike… It’s lame

2nd reason is I actually like playing all 3 roles. In the past when 6v6 was the norm we had priority que tickets which were AMAZING btw. My daily routine was queing up insta que tank - have fun, cap out my tickets, then spend the rest of my day insta queing DPS/SUPPORT with my tickets.

Made my gameplay loop fun, I felt rewarded for playing tank, but I also got to mix it up and have my quick ques on other roles. Frankly It probably made ALOT of people just like me play tank because of those ticket s.

EDIT: once 6v6 is officially back and they realize they can still give us modern tanks and just use some common sense to dial back dmg/hp or what ever and realize thats totally fine and they give us priority que tickets again I’ll be fullly converted to 6v6 only.

Right now I only continue to play 5v5 competitive because I hate not being able to play the round 2’s/overtime rounds or have the comp mentality of finishing your games (not leaving) and try harding.

As much as 6v6 is better, it is too little too late. Keep in mind taking was already miserable even back in OW1.
Why tank when can be playing MR anyway?

I don’t think the queue times are entirely accurate. Some people are reporting queue times in the 20 minute range, but queueing puts them in a match in a minute or so. Perhaps Blizzard should put out a statement?

All the times I’ve posted were at the same time.
By seeing the high times in 6v6 mod, I watched the QP and Ranked times to compare if it was about the time of playing.

Did you actually play, or did you just see the numbers and assume they were correct?

If you’ve queued for the roles, and seen some of the posts on these forums, you’d know that those estimates are not accurate at all.

It’s very rare I get any longer than 1-2 mins on any role I choose in 6v6.

btw - I didn’t say this before but even when I see 7+ minutes que for dps or support USUALLY when I que for those roles I still get a game in like 3 minutes anyway. EDIT: blizzard might legitimately intentionally show longer ques for those to encourage players to que tank instead.

Sometimes the estimated times are just wrong

Never actually considered this possibility. That’s kind of genius!

I didn’t queue 6v6.
Its weird imo if the numbers for 6v6 are wrong despite showing sucha gap with 5v5 queue times.

I know that sometimes the game displays “>7min” on all roles and that’s not true. Probably because I don’t let enoguh time for my client to request the correct times.
Yes, as one of the Role was <1min and the 2 other were different, I’d assume my client got the estimated times from the servers.

That’s because you specifically chose to post about the off hours here instead of what it looks like during peak hours to push your agenda.

I do. A lot of people do actually, which is why your average wait time for ANY role is usually no more than 2 minutes tops.

Here’s a start. Notice how the patch notes deleted the tank passive but left every other passive in the game? notice how the patch notes buffed dps and support damage and nerfed tank armor/health? Ever think maybe just maybe they went a bit too far with the tank nerfs? Winston can die in 2 headshots from your average dps.

It’s not running dry. Why is it so hard for some of you to understand just because a role has the shortest queue times does not mean it’s dead??? If that’s the case why isn’t anybody talking about the dead dps role cause I’ve often seen that at 1 minute as well.

Under this poor logic, you assume there will ALWAYS be a dead role. Because there’s always going to be a shortest queue. Always. That does not mean it’s dead. A role can still have a healthy population and have the shortest queue.

The average IQ on these forums is painful.

If every hero in your preferred role had just received multiple hard-nerfs all at the same time, would you be more or less likely to pick it?

Or would you just play the mode where the role isn’t nerfed instead?

Tank in 6v6 has less power, less agency and - at the moment - feels even worse to play than it did in OW1 because the Damage passive exists.

I did the entirety of the Avatar event in 6v6 mode, I’m back to 5v5 now.

Tanking is honestly less fun in 6v6 personally. Like, yeah sure, you’re beefier and have another tank to work with but now offensively, you suck and most of the action packed picks go solely to the DPS. Sure, that’s their main role but they perform that role just fine in 5v5 and as a solo tank, i’m slightly less beefy but more offensively powerful making me feel more impactful when assisting my team. Also, queue times are a major concern for many people. Nobody wants to sit for longer than a few minutes between games.

Because it’s QP and no one cares, if it had something to play towards more people would be playing it.

6v6 should’ve released with a short comp season
Also the queue times in 6v6 are broken, and there is a bug where you occasionally get pulled into 5v5 after a game

I have no agenda. Its a legit question.
I’ve seen those 3 queue times within 1min span, I’ve just rolled through menus to know if the times in 6v6 were just about hour of playing.

So for you its all up about balance ?

When the 2nd shortest queue is 4min, I guess its showing something.
Maybe I’m taking it wrong, but in my mind, if you have one queue under 1min and the other at 4, it means there are 4 more people in the 2nd role.

I’m more willing to play tank in 6v6. And I’m guessing more people in general are as well. The thing is going from 5v5 to 6v6 means each game needs double the amount of tank players. It’s possible that 6v6 has seen an increase in tank players but not the 100% increase necessary to keep queue times stable.

Huh? It takes a few milliseconds (your ping) to request these times. How fast are you?

Doesn’t matter what role you pick, the queue is under a minute. And you don’t even think to look at the queue again when you hit the requeue afeter every match. So you barely realize you are now getting into games easily under two minutes.

Because tanking in 6v6 sucks. You’re made of paper and the only way you survive anything is a cotank pocketing you and pushing in at the perfect time to take aggro so you can get healed/wait for a cooldown after you’ve pushed in. You and your cotank have to play so perfectly just to survive. And you’re lucky if you get that kind of teammate 3/10 games
