Why Snipers invalidate the balance argument

You see, I would really, really enjoy being in game with the very same people who talk so bad about an argument like this I bring up. Just last NIGHT i was in a game where there was a sniper. The sniper was getting more kills because for one

Insane range on their weapon

I do not see how anybody who supports snipers in the game cannot see that having the ability to target other players from a superior distance where in most cases the target cannot see them is NOT “balance in the game”

They are in most cases protected by another player

You talk about fairness right? You can call it team work all you want but the most common thing I see is a Soldier 76 hovering around the snipers area to keep anybody off the sniper while the sniper racks up kills. Again, perhaps you see this as BALANCE but to me its not. Its working to give ONE player more time to aim and not have to compromise their positon while the other players are in the real battle

Work ethic

Snipers are content to just stand there, take their time without having to move and being pressured. THIS again is NOT BALANCE. You have a player that exists in the game that doesn’t have to do anything but SIT STILL while everyone does the work and racks up kills. In most cases the sniper will end up getting more kills than anyone in the game.

Again, its not ‘whining’ its actual fact. Please for all of you EXPERTS who swear they can handle snipers with no problem again SHOW A CLIP of you doing this. POST A video of your amazing skill. PUT UP or shut up. Really a sniper should be grinding in the battle like everyone else. Reinhardt is in the line of fire and outside of characters who can fly like Mercy and the others who can go airborne have a DISTINCT advantage. There is no balance in the game when there are OBVIOUS advantages other players have. It it NOT a lack of skill to be battling with a sigma or a Orisha and then getting shot in the head becuase there is no way you can divert your focus to save yourself. Two snipers on a team is SURELY not balance and this argument has been raised before.

For all the people that SUPPORT Them in my view most are just people who talk about OH you gotta grind, work hard and all of that? They are just hiding the fact that they themselves like it easy and want to do little to no work.

There are several twitch streamers with sizeable followings that have admitted to this. If I had the data to show it then i think people would change their tune. it will never be posted but i am sure if you did a tally of the most kills per player class or character the snipers would be in the top 3 if not #1.

Everyone has a counter. Just switch to a flanker and kill the sniper. (Which I assume is Widow). The only skill that takes is not walking on a venom mine and knowing some flank routes.

Movement abilities, shields, counterpicks - in other FPS you have none of that and still they have snipers

just do not put your head in the crosshair

If the sniper on the enemy team is literally just pitching a tent that means either their team is amazing at deterring attackers, OR your team is failing to push them off their spot.

Even in the former case the sniper isn’t moving so you should be easily aware of their sightline and can avoid it/minimize your exposure. There are plenty of heros that can take the fight straight to the sniper. There are heros who can walk you across sightlines. There are heros who have strong movement to make shots harder to land.

And of course you can always put damage down range at them. Most ranks get scared off the high ground for taking small amounts of damage. You don’t need to kill them just spook them.

Man Battlefield 4 snipers were a different breed. Imagine getting sniped from 400m away with the only thing to do against it is to use cover or swap to the sniper. Good times.

It became worse in bf5 because you get sniped by literal tanks sitting on the heal station at the actual edge of the map sitting on a hit untouchable and getting 60kills

There was even a battlefield if I remember where you didn’t even have to land a headshot for a kill you just shot them in the chest and thy died :joy: At least in this game you have to earn a headshot but I understand how it can be annoying.

OW has terribly long sighted, low flank route style maps. Maps really are designed to favor precision hitscan heroes. Always have been

Either you need to rework maps so they have more cover to walk around (which Blizzard promised to change maps by they barely got touched), or you need buff projectile heroes survability to compensate for being projectiles. Otherwise hitscans will forever be meta.

Consistency rules everything and there is nothing more consistent than precise hitscan weapons with long range. I would gladly see harsh fall off nerfs to every hitscan besides Cassidy who is in the sweet spot (and he is outclassed completely by broken long range hitscans so he gets no playtime). Don’t buff Cass, he is completely playable if people don’t run long range hitscans and go stuff like Junkrat. Nerf other hitscans fall off and you will see a lot more heroes viable.

Long range hitscans do often the most damage, at the safest positions, with the most consistency, yet people don’t see that as an issue.

Hell, most close range heroes have to fight tooth and nail to get in close, only for thier combat power to break even with a point blank hitscan.

The least they could do is give hitscans reverse falloff

Because people are babies and think aim is the highest skill expression so hitscans are fine. Which is broken logic because everyone has to aim, short and long range heroes.

People just got used to pathetic and boring playstyle or hiding behind cover 24/7 and abusing quick recovery from supports to stay in the game. Game would be so much better with low heals but shorter ranges so you can actually walk around on gigantic open spaces of Junkertown rather than getting shredded by snipers or S76.

Sad, really. So used to boring gameplay that they can’t see how much more fun is to play on full map rather than learned spots where hitscan can’t see you at all.

Snipers as a class has a serious flaw that anybody thinks about… They cannot contest a point in any way.

That means a short range weapon has the advantage when it comes to winning a game, and this is something that should be noted.

You’ll never see a Widow playing on point alone, NEVER.

Pressure the sniper in any way and they become useless.

While healing is as high as it is, snipers and burst damage need to exist for picks to actually occur. It’s crazy how support players complain about being dived 24/7 then actively advocate to further push the meta into a “we must dive the supports to eliminate the healing so we can actually kill the other heroes”.

In fact, some of the map changes straight up made walkways in the map WIDER.

Looking at you, Eichenwalde 3rd attacking spawn. Left side exit is wider and the stairs are a bit wider.

I play against masters widows all the time, and i manage to win as plat 1. I simply don’t walk in their LoS, and since the poor guys spent 500 hours mastering a hero that should not even exist, instead of actually playing overewtch, they never push or help the objective, resulting in them having high kills but losing.
